Server Engineer

Job Description.

How You’ll Contribute:

As a server Engineer you will apply the skills you bring into the technical areas of VMware, Windows Operating Systems, VMware, SCCM, SCOM and Cloud Services com to enhance the current Technology Infrastructure.
You will provide second level support for complex issues, problems or projects.
Work with the TransUnion Global Technology team to maintain standards and assist with the improvement or these standards for critical foundation work in Cloud.
Your technical in sites will assist development teams to ensure all security vulnerabilities are resolved as stipulated in the TransUnion Policies and Procedures.
Work with the Global Technology Architecture teams to implement state of the art solutions in a Hybrid cloud structure.
Ensure systems are redundant and available as per global standards within the Hybrid model
The candidate must have experience in Desktop support (Windows 10) as that will be included in the support model (40% Time)
Network experience with switches and Firewalls
Linux experience will be an added advantage (Redhat)

What We Expect

As Server Engineer Senior, you’ll need to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with occasionally conflicting priorities. Key responsibilities span 3 areas:

Hardware and Software Virtual Server Maintenance

Ensure Operating systems are patched as per the TransUnion Patch management process.
Management of Software versions as per the TransUnion InfoSec Policies.
Review Server configurations and Golden Images to ensure optimal use.
Monitor and Manage weekly patch cycle to ensure a successful patch deployment.
Manage Vmware and VMware toolsets to ensure optimized efficiency

End user computing support

Support users in Rwanda
SCCM support with Image builds
Software Centre knowledge for Software deployment

Network Support

Configurations of Cisco Switches
Configuration of Firewall and the creation of Firewall rulesets
Installation of Network equipment
Procurement of network quotes from vendors
IP Address configuration

Support

Provisions moderate to complex server environments.
Provides on-call production support activities, using the technical knowledge and capability to handle all problems that may arise.
Support during Africa Business hours and with Standby as per TransUnion Standby Roster
Proactively puts procedures in place to prevent and reduce the severity of outages.
Manage environments as per best practices and TransUnion Standards.
Oversees or performs the installation and testing of upgrades working with the systems and applications teams.
Automation of Routine Tasks and system Management activities

Impact You’ll Make

What you’ll bring:

As Server Engineer Senior, you should have 5+ years progressive open systems, Windows platform and Cloud experience. In addition, you should have a Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical field or similar discipline.

Technical Skills

Demonstrated expertise in the design, implementation and support of complex server infrastructures in a Virtual or Cloud Environment – Knowledge of Amazon Services (IaaS) will be an advantage.
Strong understanding of VMware and SCCM focusing on vulnerability management.
Strong understanding of server platforms in a corporate environment.
Strong understanding of SAN Storage environments and Best Practices.
Strong understanding of server security practices and tools.
In depth experience with hardware and software based server monitoring tools.
Understand Web Server technologies.
Understanding of Microsoft patching processes.
Knowledge of security scanning toolsets.
