Impact Research and Development Organization is a registered Kenyan NGO with a main office in Kisumu and regional offices  in  ten  counties.  

IRDO’s  principal  mandate  is  to  design,  implement  and  evaluate HIV/AIDS  research  and  intervention  programs  that  improve  the  health  status  of  individuals  and  local communities. 

We are looking for qualified and experienced personnel to fill in the following positions within our DREAMS Program. 


The program seeks to provide most vulnerable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15-24 years with core package of evidence-informed interventions most likely to impact  HIV  incidence,  address  risk  behaviors  for  and  transmission  of  HIV,  and  reduce  gender-based violence in Siaya County. 
 
1. Clinical Officers

(6 Positions) 
 
Job Summary: Provide or assist in the provision of minimum package of clinical services at selected youth-friendly clinics in Siaya County and during community outreaches targeting most vulnerable adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) aged 15-24 years as per the set National Guidelines / standards. 
 
Reports to: The Field Coordinator – Clinical Services    
 
Location: Based  at  selected  youth-friendly  youth  centres  in  Siaya  County,  with  field  visits  to  provide outreach clinical services. 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Assess AGYW and establish health care needs as necessary.
  • Diagnose simple common health conditions, prescribe, and administer treatment.
  • Provide appropriate healthcare service; e.g. administration of treatment, dispensing drugs, etc.
  • Provide health education and counseling to clients on identified health problems and socio-economic issues related to their health.
  • Keep clinical environment tidy and safe; ensure efficiency and safety of assigned nursing commodities.
  • Ensure that the health care services are friendly, responsive to the needs and offered at the convenient time of AGYW.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognized training institution and in possession of a registration certificate issued by Clinical Officers Council.
  • Must have at least one year’s experience in a busy health facility.
  • Training and practical experience in providing youth-friendly services, an added advantage.
  • Knowledge on HIV care and treatment added advantage; ability to diagnose and treat STIs.
  • Must be pleasant, have good communication skills and willing to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
 2. Nursing Officers 

(6 Positions) 

Job Summary:

  • Knowledge on HIV care and treatment added advantage; ability to diagnose and treat STIs.
  • Must be pleasant, have good communication skills and willing to work in challenging environments and under pressure.
3. Special Needs’ Behavioural Counsellors 

(2 Positions) 
 
Job Summary: Provide behavioural counseling and HIV Testing Services (HTS) to AGYW with special needs and their sexual partners where applicable; and ensure all clients testing HIV+ positive are linked and enroll for HIV care and treatment services. 

Reports to: HTC Team Leaders 
 
Location: Bondo, Ugenya, Alego-Usonga, Gem, Rarieda and Ugunja sub-counties, Siaya County 
 
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Offer behavioural counseling and HIV Testing Services (HTS) to eligible AGYW with special needs (with hearing and/or  visual  impairment)  and  their  sexual  partners  and  provide  effective  referrals  where applicable.
  • Ensure that all HIV positive clients with special needs are promptly referred and that all are enrolled for
  • HIV care and treatment services at MoH PSCs of choice.
  • Ensure quality HTS are provided to clients in accordance with National Guidelines.
  • Closely work with Field Assistants to undertake identification, screening and recruitment of AGYW with special need to receive a package of combination HIV services.
  • Ensure clients information/data are kept safe and confidential
Minimum Requirements:
  • Diploma in Counseling Psychology, Counseling Studies, Special Needs Education or related field.
  • Certificate in HIV Counselling and Testing from a recognized institution (proof of certification is required)
  • At  least  a  Certificate  in  Sign  Language  Interpretation  from  a  recognized  institution  (proof  of  certification is required)
  • At least a Certificate in Special Education with specialization in visual impairment from a recognized institution (proof of certification is required)
  • Possess practical experience with sign language interpretation 
  • Excellent mastery of the Braille
  • Trained on HTC New Algorithm and should be actively practicing in the last one year
  • Minimum of 1 year experience as a HTS service provider in a busy HTC site.
  • Must  be pleasant,  have good communication  skills  and  willing  to  work  under  pressure  in  remote  settings.
