Corporate Communications
Expert
Grade: Equivalent to EAC P2 Staff Grade

1.1 Main purpose of the job
The
Corporate Communications Expert will be responsible for supporting the Head of
the Department in the development and implementation of internal and external
corporate communications strategies.
The Expert
will assist with communications materials to effectively represent the EAC
regional Integration agenda to Stakeholders.
Internally,
the Corporate Communications Expert will be responsible for developing and
driving employee communications messaging, vehicles, and procedures.
This
position is an excellent future opportunity to be part of the growing Corporate
Communications and Public Affairs Department at the EAC Secretariat.
1.2 Major Tasks/Responsibilities
(i) To
develop information and communications strategies and activities to promote a
positive corporate image and visibility of the East African Community
(ii) To
draft EAC official and public statements i.e. Speeches, Press Releases, and
Communiqués
(iii) To
compile and edit EAC Publications that will include, among others, Annual
Reports, Brochures, Occasional and other information materials.
(iv) To
develop information and communications, and networking with the broad spectrum
of EAC stakeholders to promote a positive awareness and image of the East
African Community.
(v) Take
charge of the EAC Media Centre and make it a robust resource centre for the
Media.
(vi) To
organize public functions as well as public and visitors service, including
study tours and courtesy calls on the Executives.
(vii) To
organize sensitization programmes to the broad spectrum of EAC stakeholders, in
coordination with other EAC Departments, Organs and Institutions and the
Partner States Information and Communications Departments/Directorates.
(viii) To
co-ordinate the EAC Day celebrations and other EAC Anniversaries observances at
the Headquarters and in the Partner States.
(ix) To
develop and implement an internal communications program which properly
represents the rich EAC culture, strategy and strong desire to bridge multiple
Divisions/Directorates, Organs, and Institutions.
(x) To
draft internal communications newsletter (in-house newsletter)
(xi) To
develop Internal Communications calendar.
1.3 Education
- A Masters Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Relations, or related field
1.4 Work Experience
- At least 8 years relevant, progressive experience in journalism, corporate communications or public relations.
- Substantial knowledge of issues relating to EAC regional integration is a must.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, able to prioritize and multitask, and work collaboratively across the EAC Organs.
1.5 Skills and Competencies
(i) Languages
- English.
- Kiswahili and French is an added advantage.
(ii) Other
skills required: Writing and Editorial Skills, Public Relations, Excellent
Communication Skills, People management skills, Quick decision maker,
Presentation Skills, Organizational skills, Research Skills, Computer
Applications, Commitment to high standards is essential to success, and Ability
and willingness to work outside of business hours, and weekends if required
Terms and Conditions of Service
This is a
non-established project position tenable at the EAC Secretariat Headquarters
based in Arusha, Tanzania and supported by EAC Partnership Fund.
The above
position will be subjected to the EAC quota system.
