The
Kenya Industrial Property Institute (KIPI) is a State Corporation under the
Ministry of Industrialization established under the Industrial Property Act
2001 to administer and promote industrial property rights (IPRs) in
Kenya.

Position
Duties
and Responsibilities
At
this level, the officer will be in charge of the administrative services, human
resource development, procurement services, and financial services and will be
responsible to the Deputy Managing Director (Finance, Planning and
Administration).
His
duties include: -
(a)
Assisting the Deputy Managing Director in the organisation, direction,
administration, management, coordination, harmonization and supervision of
activities of the department responsible for finance, planning and
administration.
(b)
Preparing progress reports for the division.
(c)
Preparing performance reports on members of the staff under his supervision.
(d)
Providing direction and guidance for technical developments and standards in
his functional area.
(e)
Determining the training requirements for the Institute.
Requirements
for Promotion
For
promotion to this grade, an officer must have, in addition to the minimum
requirements for promotion to
the grade of a senior officer grade “KP 4’: -
the grade of a senior officer grade “KP 4’: -
- Served for a
minimum period of three (3) years in the grade of a senior officer grade
“KP 4’.
- Demonstrated a
track record of management skills.
- Extensive
knowledge and experience in his professional field for at least seven (7)
years.
- Demonstrated a
high standard of professional competence and administrative ability
required for directing and co-ordination of planning activities.
Direct
Entry
For
direct entry to this grade the applicant must have:
(a)
At least an upper second class Bachelors degree in social sciences (sociology,
economics, public/business administration and law), commerce or its equivalent
from a recognized institution.
(b)
At least a Masters Degree in Business Administration (accounts option) or a
Masters Degree in Economics or its accepted equivalent from a recognised
institution.
(c)
Be a holder of at least CPA II or CPS (K).
(d)
At least six (6) years post qualification experience of which three (3) years
will have been gained in the public sector or a big private sector organisation
and three (3) years in strategy formulation and implementation in a senior
management position.
Patent Examiner II

Duties
and Responsibilities
This
is the entry grade for this cadre.
Under
the supervision of a Patent Examiner I, the appointee will undergo on-job
training for a period of three (3) years, and will: -
- Co-ordinate
receiving and recording of applications for industrial property rights
- Classify patent
documents according to the International Patent Classification (IPC)
System.
- Examine patent
applications as to form.
- Examine utility
model applications as to form.
- Examine
industrial design applications as to form.
- Any other duties
assigned by the Supervisor.
Requirements
for Appointment
For
appointment to the grade of a Patent Examiner II a candidate must have at
least:-
(a)
An upper second class Bachelors degree from a recognized university in Science
(Biochemistry / Biotechnology), Engineering, (Electrical/Electronics) or
Physics.
(b)
Good analytical and computer skills.
Planning Officer II

- Assist in
development and coordination of the organization’s long-term strategic
plan.
- Carry out
analysis of major capital expenditures and their inclusion in the business
planning process in coordination with the operations and finance
departments.
- Update the
strategic plan.
- Coordinate with
finance to quantify strategic scenarios, assessing opportunities and
making recommendations.
- Preparing timely
and accurate reports.
Requirements
for Appointment
- Bachelor of Arts
degree in Economics
- Relevant
professional qualifications
- Three (3) years
experience in a business planning capacity.
Note:
