Assistant Director Livestock Production

Salary Scale: Kshs.63,782 – Kshs.81404 pm (Job Group ‘P’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least twelve (12) years in Livestock Production, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Chief Livestock Production Officer, Job Group ‘M’ or above or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
2.     a Bachelors of Science degree in any of the following disciplines: Animal Science/Animal Production, Agriculture, Agribusiness, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Range Management, Natural Resource Management, Livestock/Agricultural Economics and Dairy Technology, Agricultural Extension or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognised University;
3.     Computer application skills;
4.     shown merit in their field of specialization; and
5.     demonstrated a high degree of professional competence and managerial ability.
Duties and Responsibilities


An officer at this level may be deployed at the Headquarters or in a Provinces or a District.
(a) At the Headquarters, the officer will be in charge of a section.
The specific duties will include:
1.     Planning and budgeting;
2.     Providing guidance and supervision of staff under him/her; and
3.     Preparing regular progress reports and participation in policy development
(b) At the Provincial level, the officer will be in charge of livestock development projects, such as National Agriculture and Livestock Extension Project, small dairy commercialization project, ASAL-Based Livestock and rural livelihood support Projects
(c) At the District, the specific activities will include:
1.     interpreting and implementing Government Livestock policies;
2.     providing technical advice to district subject matter specialists and stake holders;
3.     coordinating and promoting livestock extension services such as clean milk production, animal breeding, livestock production and nutrition;
4.     Liaising with region research centres;
5.     operating within the area of jurisdiction in district development fora such  as District Development Committee; and
6.     budgeting and managing resources allocated to the district office.
Principal Assistant Livestock Production Officer

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.40,835 – Ksh.49,636 p.m. (Job Group ‘NT)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least ten  (10) years in the Livestock Production field, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Senior Assistant Livestock Production officer, job group ‘L’ or above or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
2.     a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Animal Husbandry, Dairy Science and Technology, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture and Home Economics, Apiculture, Animal Health and Reproduction and Range Management/Farm Management from a recognized institution; and
3.     demonstrated supervisory and administrative ability as reflected in work performance and results.
Duties and Responsibilities
This is the highest grade in Assistant Livestock Production cadre.   An officer at this level will work under a District or Provincial head.
Duties and responsibilities will include:
1.     preparing development programmes and work plans;
2.     ensuring proper maintenance of government property such as station vehicles, plant and machinery;
3.     monitoring Livestock Production activities, personnel training and development, administrative and budgetary matters;
4.     coordinating specialized Livestock development projects such as Small Dairy Commercialization project, SAL-Based Livestock and Rural Livelihoods Support project (AALLPRO) and other Livestock projects funded by stakeholders and development partners.
Chief Laboratory Technologist
Twenty Two (22) Posts

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.40,835- Ksh.49,636 (Job Group ‘N’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least ten (10) years in a Laboratory Technology related field, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Senior Laboratory Technologist, Job Group 1′ or above or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
2.     a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Applied Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Analytical/ Applied Chemistry, Food Science or its equivalent from a recognized institution; and
3.     demonstrated competence and ability in organizing, performing and discharging duties at that level.
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level may be deployed at the Headquarters/Regional/Central/National  reference  Laboratory to be in-charge of such a Laboratory.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
1.     managing Laboratory Services at the centre;
2.     planning and budgeting for Laboratory Investigations;
3.     training and supervision of staff;
4.     being in-charge of a Laboratory Services Collaborative research Project; and
5.     evaluating and adapting to new technology.
Principal Assistant Livestock Health Officer
Two (2) Posts

Basic Salary Scale: Ksh.40,835 – 49,636 p.m. (Job Group ‘N’)
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least ten (10) years in Livestock Health related field, three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Senior Assistant Livestock Health Officer Job Group V or above or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service; and
2.     successfully completed the prescribed course at Egerton University or any other recognized institution and been awarded a diploma in Animal Health/Husbandry or equivalent qualifications.
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level will be deployed at the Ministry’s Headquarters.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
1.     advising directors of veterinary services through the respective deputy directors on matters affecting officers in the field including their training, development and deployment; and
2.     coordinating work and budgets of veterinary farms, outspans and holding groups.
Assistant Chief Laboratory Technologist

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:
1.     served for at least ten (10) years in a Laboratory related field three (3) of which should have been in the grade of Assistant Laboratory Technologist I, Job Group ‘K’ or above or in a comparable position in the wider Public Service;
2.     a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Applied Biology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, or its equivalent form a recognized institution; and
3.     demonstrated competence and ability in organizing, performing and discharging Laboratory duties at this level
Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level may be deployed at a District/Regional/ Central/National reference Laboratory to be in charge of a section in a Laboratory.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will include:
1.     managing and rendering Laboratory Services;
2.     planning and budgeting for Laboratory investigations; and
3.     establishing and maintaining Specimen/Culture Banks, training and supervision of staff.
