Project Officer Job in Kenya - NGO

World Concern Development Organisation, a Christian Relief and Development Organisation wishes to recruit an experienced Agriculture Project Officer to manage the Agriculture sector of a new community development program in Bura Sub County in Tana River County. 

The Bura Community Development and Rehabilitation Project, aims at promoting conservation agriculture, savings led microfinance, introducing alternative livelihoods as well hygiene and sanitation promotion in Bura Sub County. The person will be based in Bura town, with daily travel to different locations within the Sub County.
 

Primary Responsibility: This is a field based position based in Bura Sub County in Tana River County.

The main responsibility of the position is to oversee implementation of the agricultural component of the program; ensuring activities are implemented in line with proposal and budget.

Key Functions
  • Supervise all aspects of the agricultural component of the project
  • Ensure that annual, quarterly and monthly work plans are developed, implemented as planned and effectively monitored
  • Ensure that planned agriculture activities are implemented in line with project proposal and budget
  • Assist the program manager in preparing budgets and fulfilling financial and narrative reporting requirements as per donor/organisation guidelines
  • Develop and implement  a data management system and data collection tools for monitoring and evaluation of the project activities
  • Work with other program staff to coordinate joint activities, tools and strategies between respective sectors
  • Provide training and capacity building support to local partners, savings groups, women groups, etc.
  • Ensure strong focus on learning including the implementation of quality case studies in coordination with the program manager.
  • Ensure close coordination and collaboration with County, local authorities and other Administrative Units to ensure project activities are in line with government policies. Ensure the engagement of all partners during all aspects of program implementation.
  • Liaise closely with other agencies implementing similar and related activities in the operational area to ensure harmonisation of approaches, complementarities, in order to avoid overlaps and gaps in services and ensure activities are coordinated where appropriate.
  • Identify and ensure quality response to any capacity building needs of the staff and partner   organizations.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Agriculture/Agribusiness.
  • At least 3 years’ experience managing agricultural programs in a relief and development setting. 
  • Prior experience in managing savings led microfinance and knowledge on Conservation Agriculture or Farming God’s Way will be an added advantage
  • Knowledge on Farm Field School(FFS) model is critical in implementing this project
  • Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and constructively with local government officers and other partners.
  • Experience in highly volatile security situations and a commitment to team safety. Able to follow strictly security protocol.
  • Commitment to the principles of participatory team management and participatory, community-oriented development.
  • Prior experience living in remote areas and ability with comfortably in a multi religious environment.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili required.
  • Able to communicate in a manner that is confident and clear, yet diplomatic, enabling him/her to forge positive working relationships with donors and other stakeholders.
