Job Description
The Africa
- Asia Junior Analyst serves as the MIX focal point for Africa and Asia for a
fast paced financial sector non-profit.
The Junior
Analyst is responsible for supporting the growth and expansion of MIX’s core
activities in Africa and Asia in line with the organization’s goals of
achieving reliable, comparable, and publicly available information on the
performance and outreach of microfinance institutions (MFIs).
The Junior
Analyst is responsible for collecting, processing and analyzing financial,
operational and social performance data from a portfolio of MFIs, in addition
to supporting partner organizations in the use of MIX’s systems and products.
This
position requires a dynamic and self-motivated individual with an understanding
of financial analysis, accounting and regional socio-economic trends.
Responsibilities
To achieve these
goals, the Junior Analyst has primary responsibilities (90% of time) to:
Data collection
- Ensure the ultimate collection of data on the assigned portfolio of MFI: solicit, collect, review and analyze MFI data, ensuring MIX standard quality and in line with regional work plan targets;
- Manage the publication of data, files and other information to MIX Market and other databases and information platforms;
Products
- Produce and update MIX’s market intelligence reports for the regions;
- Produce and support other analysis products delivered by MIX’s programs;
- Partner development and relations management
- Manage MIX’s partner portfolio in the region, building relationships and support regional partners who carry out similar data collection, publication and analysis work;
- Manage and expand contacts with other relevant and regional microfinance actors;
- Build MIX’s regional reputation, through work and any channel, as the best source of data on microfinance in the region, also expanding contacts with other relevant regional actors.
- The Junior Analyst will have a secondary responsibility (10% of time) to support management and other work of MIX on any number of tasks including to:
- Assist operational activities in the regions, performing regional work plan in coordination with the Regional Manager;
- Supporting the development of MIX’s programs through regional partnerships and projects;
- Support improvement of MIX’s technology used by the analyst team and partners; contributing to shared analyst tools.
Working relationships
The Junior
Analyst will work as part of a regional team of Africa and Asia Analysts under
the direct supervision of the Regional Manager, with a collective
responsibility for industry analysis covering the globe in the performance and
outreach of MFIs.
Qualifications
- BA minimum in Economics, Finance, Accounting/Auditing, or relevant field. Masters degree preferred.
- Experience in financial analysis, audit, or accounting.
- Understanding of financial analysis, accounting and regional socio-economic trends.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and French
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint and comfort with online databases are essential;
Skills
- Self-starter and independent actor able to carry out agreed work plan with little supervision
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English and French (verbal and written).
Remuneration
Salary
commensurate with qualifications and range for the position. Consulting fees
will be paid at all costs and the analyst will be responsible for taxes and
social withholdings.
