The income
generated supports AMREF’s work, in particular the Outreach Programme and
Charity Evacuations.
We are
seeking to fill the following vacancy based at AMREF Flying Doctors, Nairobi.
Chief Medical Officer
Ref: No. AFD/09/2013
Reporting
to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Medical Officer will be in charge of
all aspects with regard to AMREF Flying Doctors’ medical services.
This
includes clinical responsibilities, as well as operational support and matters
related to business, marketing and human resources.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Direct clinical: Maintain own currency in specialities and aeromedical practices as flight physician, maintain standards of the flight medical crew
- Indirect clinical: Develop, review and update medical protocols, policies and guidelines, review medical equipment, lead medical audit process, handle incidents and complaints, advise on relevant medico-legal aspects, supervise clinical staff performance
- Operational Support: Provide advice to flight medical crew and interface between aviation & medical operations
- Human Resources: Act as line manager for clinical staff
- Quality Control: Develop and maintain risk analysis and management procedures, assist in developing a formal aero-medical quality assurance programme.
- Training and CME: Lead continuing education programme, develop training programs to ensure highest possible standards of flight medical patient care, establish a platform for medical audit and research within the company
Essential Criteria:
The ideal
candidate will be a Physician with at least 5 years of post-registration
practice, duly certified in anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, emergency
medicine or acute medicine with a minimum of 3 years post-registration
experience in a critical care environment including intensive care medicine.
Additionally
s/he should have previous education and experience in aero-medical
transportation of critically ill or injured patients, i.e. CCAT course or
Diploma in (Aero) Medical Retrieval & Transport.
Currency in
ACLS, ATLS and PALS or similar recognised courses within the past 3 years is a
must.
Desired Criteria:
Proven
record in management, leadership and teaching.
Possess
excellent communication skills both written and verbal (English).
Physical
fitness for aeromedical work and ability to work efficiently under stressful
conditions.
