Site Project Technical Staff Job Vacancies in Kenya

Nature Kenya wishes to fill the positions of Site Project Officers and Site Project Extension Officers for the GEF/UNDP funded project “Strengthening the Protected Area Network within the Eastern Montane Forest Hotspot of Kenya”.

The Project staff shall be based at either Kakamega or the Cherengani Forests as part of a team delivering planned outputs, targets and activities.

The 
Site Project Officers (two positions - one position for Cherengani and one for Kakamega Forests) will be responsible for coordinating and supervising site-based day-to-day activity implementation as directed by the Site Support Specialist. S/he will convene and take minutes at Site Project Coordination meetings, supervise extension staff, organise workshops and write monthly progress reports, work plans and budgets.

The Site Project Extension Officers (four positions - two positions for Cherengani and two positions Kakamega Forests) will mobilise communities, provide training on a range of initiatives including but not limited to general organisational capacity development for sustainability, education and awareness for forest conservation, business development/planning, participatory forest management, action planning and community assessment.

Qualifications include: 

  • University degree (MSc added advantage) level qualification in environmental science; natural resource management, conservation biology, forestry;
  • good understanding of local and national conservation, development and related political issues;
  • proven financial and project management skills, staff and adaptive management skills, ability to work strategically, co-ordinate a wide range of activities and stakeholders, and act independently;
  • proven experience in the implementation of conservation and development grants involving multiple stakeholders and community participation in day-to-day implementation; and
  • proven technical report writing, communication and computer literacy;
  • a minimum of 3 years relevant experience for Project Officers and 2 years experience for extension officers.
