Corporate Affairs Advisor Job Vacancy

Our client, a large independent Oil & Gas exploration company with interests across many continents is recruiting a Corporate Affairs Advisor.

Reporting operationally to General Manager, Kenya and functionally to External Affairs Manager, South and East Africa Region, he/she will support delivery of local business objectives through the development of strategies and implementation of supporting plans for building meaningful and sustainable external partnerships and consequently enhancing the organization reputation.

The Corporate Affairs Advisor will be expected to:

Manage External Stake Holders
  • Support Inter-Government liaison and industry affairs by ensuring effective and consistent representation in industry affairs.
  • Coordinate and participate in lobby efforts with key external parties and stakeholders in support of business objectives.
  • Support the development and stewardship of strategies and plans for representing interests across multiple stakeholder groups at various levels (from local communities, to district authorities, national government and regional organizations).
  • Ensure that position papers on key issues are developed and constantly updated by the respective functional heads.
  • Coordinate networking with Government, communities, professional organizations and various stakeholders in relation to issues that affect the sustainability of the business in-country.
Corporate Communications and Media Management
  • Advice the General Manager on all issues related to external communications and corporate reputation.
  • Develop a media relations plan which identifies media opportunities to promote awareness of the country activities.
  • Liaise with the group External Affairs and Investor Relations Function, through the Regional External Affairs Manager, to ensure that Kenya’s external communications are consistent with disclosure requirements and build and maintain brand awareness to support the business objectives of Kenya specifically and the Group generally.
  • Support the development and implementation of a consistent policy and approach to external corporate events including corporate sponsorships and donations.
  • To compile crisis communications plan and serve as the principal contact for incoming communication from the media.
  • To develop supporting communication materials such as press releases, speeches, publications or events to convey the desired message.
Corporate Issues Management
  • Support the management team in developing a business risk framework (matrix) and act as custodian of the same.
  • Support the General Manager in monitoring implementation of interventions to manage business risks.
  • Coordinate the mapping of key country business issues; ensure are priorities are identified and monitor implementation of agreed mitigating actions.
Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Develop frameworks for mapping local community priorities and advise appropriate strategic interventions to support the communities in line with Social Enterprise and community relations policies.
  • Identify sustainable partners for delivery of Social Enterprise projects at all levels.
  • Manage the Country Social Enterprise budget and reporting to Group on all CSR and business related sustainable development initiatives.
Qualifications and experience:
  • A degree in Business or Communication studies with over 5 years experience in corporate or public relations and/or communications field.
  • Additional experience within the extractive sector or major infrastructure projects would be desirable but not necessary.
  • Should possess good communication, engagement and influencing capabilities.
  • Advanced oral, written communication and analytical skills with strong business awareness.
  • A result-oriented individual who is able to build trust and demonstrate a high level of integrity is required.
