The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is a State Corporation under the Ministry of Roads established by the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 with the core mandate of management, development, rehabilitation and maintenance of all public roads in the cities and municipalities in Kenya except where those roads are national roads.

Chief Legal Officer (Litigation)

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Legal & Corporate Affairs, the Chief Legal Officer (Litigation) will efficiently manage all litigation matters the Authority is involved in as well as assist in handling of Company Secretarial duties.
Key responsibilities
·         Manage the Authority’s litigation cases in liaison with the State Law Office and/or the Authority’s external lawyers.
·         Receive court documents in the absence of the Manager, Legal & Corporate Affairs.
·         Ensure Regulations that govern the operations of the Board are complied with at all times.
·         Assist in preparation and circulation of Agenda and facilitate smooth running of Board meetings and preparation of minutes in a timely manner.
·         Ensure that signed and confirmed minutes are filed.
·         Participating in formulation and review of legal Policies and procedures for the Authority.
Qualifications and competencies
·         University graduate LLB degree.
·         Certified Public Secretary (CPS) (K) qualification is an added advantage.
·         An advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
·         A Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
·         Holder of a current practicing certificate.
·         Five( 5) years relevant post qualification experience with at least three (3)years at a senior level in a busy working environment;
·         Must be competent, articulate and capable of dealing with complex litigation without supervision.
·         Excellent organization skills.
·         Able to work without supervision, meeting strict deadlines and coping with intense work pressure.
·         Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
·         Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise judgment and make decisions to promote smooth workflow, which requires a strong overall knowledge of departmental operation.
