Position Description
The
Corporation Secretary will be reporting to the Board of Management and to the
Director of the Institute.
Terms
of Service: Contract term of four (4) years renewable once based on
performance.
Responsibilities
·
Providing guidance to the Board on
their duties, responsibilities and powers and how these should be exercised in
the best interest of the Institute;
·
Facilitate planning of all KEMRI
Board of Management activities to ensure that they are aligned to the
Institutes’ strategies and all relevant Government directives.
·
Coordinate evaluations of performance
of board members and board development programs;
·
Offer guidance to the Director, KEMRI
and top Management in preparation of Board papers.
·
Providing secretarial services to the
Board including ensuring that the minutes of the Board and board committees are
promptly prepared and circulated;
·
Custody of the seal and a record of
its usage;
·
Offer guidance to the Institute on
matters touching on investigations of the Institute by external agencies to
ensure that the Institute’s image and interest are secure.
·
Formulating policy and Providing
advice on legal and corporate matters to the Institute through interpretation
and writing legal opinions;
·
Ensuring that Legal Audit Compliance
is carried out to confirm legal compliance with national, regional and
international legal requirements;
·
Developing and reviewing relevant
regulatory Legal framework for the better implementation of the Institute’s
mandate;
·
Drafting and reviewing contracts,
Service Level Agreements, Memorandum of Understanding, leases and other legal
documents to ensure compliance to statutory requirements and the Institute’s
policies;
·
Coordinating and ensuring
representation of the Institute in courts or other judicial authorities;
·
Reviewing and providing advice on
legal risk at the Institute;
·
Managing litigation and review
progress of outstanding litigation;
·
Liaising and managing external
lawyers for the Institute;
·
Management of intellectual property
rights aspects of the institution.
·
Contract negotiation with external
parties
·
Initiation of legal action and
defence on behalf of the Board of Management;
·
Performing any other duties as may be
assigned from time to time by the Director and the Board.
Qualifications
For
appointment to this grade, an officer must have:-
·
An Advocate of the High Court of
Kenya with at least twelve (12) years’ work experience including litigation;
·
Bachelor of Laws degree from a
recognized institution;
·
Master’s Degree in any of the
following disciplines: Law, Business Administration, Public Administration, or
equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
·
Certified Public Secretary (K) or
equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
·
Membership to the Law Society of
Kenya (LSK) and Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya (ICPS (K);
·
Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Studies
from the Council of Legal Education;
·
Valid practicing license;
·
Leadership Course lasting not less
than six (6) weeks will be an added advantage.
·
Proficiency in computer applications;
·
Demonstrated professional competence
and administrative capability as reflected in work performance and results; and
·
Fulfill the requirements of Chapter
Six (6) of the Constitution.
The
following will be required during the interviews :- Certificate of good
conduct, Higher Education Loans Board compliance certificate, KRA Tax
compliance certificate, Credit Reference Bureau clearance certificate, Ethics
and Anti-Corruption Commission clearance.
ICT Deputy Director
JOB GROUP KMR 3
The
Deputy Director, Information Communication Technology will be reporting to the
Director, Corporate Services.
Terms
of Service: Your appointment is on permanent and pensionable terms.
Responsibilities
·
Implementing Institute s policies,
strategies and procedures;
·
Managing the Institute’s ICT systems
and Infrastructure;
·
Approving systems designs,
Hardware/Software and program specifications in liaison with users;
·
Developing and ensure adherence to
established ICT standards;
·
Maintaining overall systems
documentation;
·
Supervising installation
certification, repairs and maintenance of Information Communication Technology
equipment and associated peripherals;
·
Administering passwords of critical
systems and maintaining web-based systems and database server’s configuration;
·
Drafting and managing ICT related
service level agreements;
·
Providing seamless ICT services;
·
Managing ICT risk management and
maintain Systems security and Databases;
·
Managing ICT Planning, Budgeting and
Reporting;
·
Managing outsourced ICT services and
service providers; and
·
Mentoring staff.
Qualifications
For
appointment to this grade an officer must have:-
·
At least eight (8) years relevant
work experience four (4) of which should be in a management position;
·
Bachelor’s degree in any of the
following disciplines: – Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer
Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a
recognized Institution;
·
Master’s degree in any of the
following disciplines: – Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer
Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a
recognized Institution;
·
Membership to ICT professional body:
Computer Society of Kenya or ICT Association of Kenya;
·
Professional certification such as
CCNP, CCNA, MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, N+, A+ Oracle, CEH, CISSP, CISM, Linux+,
Network+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) or any other equivalent
certification from a recognized Institution;
·
Management Course lasting not less
than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
·
Demonstrate merit and ability as
reflected in work performance and results;
·
Fulfil the requirements of Chapter

Field Officer
Purpose
To
support recruitment and retention activities for a research clinic team
involved in providing HIV prevention research and other reproductive health
services to both sero-concordant and discordant couples
Responsibilities
·
Work with the recruitment team to
identify and recruit eligible persons for study participation
·
Identify and support activities aimed
at maintaining high retention of study participants
·
Conduct outreach activities in order
to engage eligible participants
·
Attend and participate in trainings,
team/staff meetings, and other events as needed.
·
Performs screening activities to
identify eligible research candidates, including reviewing study site patient
databases and office records for patients that meet the protocol inclusion
criteria.
·
Reports enrollment progress on a
regular basis. Provides feedback on particularly difficult studies to enroll
and develops recruitment strategies to improve enrollment.
·
Recommends and supports the
implementation of patient recruitment tactics to facilitate on-time completion
of clinical trials as appropriate
·
Interacts with key stakeholders in study
management to plan and carries out community and stakeholders education on
planned, ongoing and completed studies to raise awareness and buy in and to
develop and execute strategy for future recruitment drives.

Represents the institution in
stakeholder forums
·
Ensures that all enrolled
participants are retained in the study project
·
Bring to the study team’s attention
any problems, challenges, observed in study activities
·
Any other duties assigned by
supervisor.
Qualifications
Education and Professional Training
·
Degree in Counseling, Social work,
Nursing or other Community Health accreditation from a recognized Institution
·
Training on HIV Testing and
Counseling and reproductive health sciences
Competencies
·
Knowledge of STI, HIV/AIDS care
·
Basic counseling
·
Basic IT and social media skills
·
Demonstrated knowledge on sexual and
reproductive health service delivery
Experience
·
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with
direct involvement in patient care or outreachespecially with vulnerable
groups- particularly in couple testing and counselling
·
Peer support, outreach and
coordination an added advantage
·
HIV Counseling and Testing skills an

·
Should be familiar with the Ministry
of Health systems
The

Nurse Counselor (2 Posts)
Job purpose
To
assist in screening and enrolment of clients into the study and in data
collection
Responsibilities

Obtaining information from
participants and filling in participant forms

Demonstrating use of HIV self-testing

Verify quality of data by comparing
abstracted data to source documents

Responds to participant’s calls

Qualifications
·
Diploma in nursing, clinical medicine
or any other health related field
·
Experience working in a Comprehensive
Care Centre (CCC) will be an added advantage
·
Past experience in electronic data
collection using Redcap is desirable
·
Experience in HIV testing and
certified by NASCOP
·
Prior GCP and Human subjects training
is desirable
·
Experience working in clinical
research setting is an added advantage

Trial Coordinator
Essential Requirements
·
BSc in Biology
Responsibilities
·
Plan, oversee and carry out
day-to-day management of field activities in Kwale, Kenya
·
Prepare study material, data
collection tools and strategies for data management, including development of
standard operating procedures
·
Oversee quality control.
·
Participate in of study staff and
develop training materials
·
Prepare budgets and associated
justifications. Confirm accuracy and completeness of budgeted costs.
·
Coordinate and oversee data
collection including parasitology data
·
Analyze data arising from the trial,
and lead and/or contribute to the writing of resulting manuscripts
·
Liaise with the project consortium
partners
·
Liaise with researchers and partners
in Kenya in community sensitization and dissemination of findings
·
Work in close collaboration with all
members of the project team and the wider research group on other aspects of
the research programme as required
·
Supervise students and other junior
staff attached to the project
Qualifications
·
Substantial field-work experience,
including long-term day-to-day management of large field teams
·
Familiarity with parasitological
diagnostics, including copro-microscopic methods
·
Experience and demonstrated expertise
in the analysis of large epidemiological datasets, including data management
and advanced epidemiological analysis methods, and proven strong ability to use
the statistical package Stata for these purposes
·
Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly for
a range of audiences including academic publications
·
Proven ability to organize work
effectively to meet deadlines and exercise initiative and sound judgment in conducting
research tasks, including identifying and managing problems which may affect
the achievement of research objectives
·
Fluent in written and spoken English
and Swahili.
·
Willing to be based full time in
Kwale.
·
Experience in conducting large-scale
randomized trials and managing large field teams in Kenya
·
Experience of working with local
partners, including the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Ministry of
Health and Ministry of Education.
·
Experience in working with national
disease control programmes

1-year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period

Remuneration
Compensation
is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on education levels, relevant
experience and demonstrated competency. The salary scheme is based on the KEMRI
scales.
