We are seeking to recruit a Director, Finance & Operations, Africa to manage the financial and operations activities throughout Africa.
The
Director will work under the direction of the CEO and work closely with local
staff and regional teams to ensure optimal performance, compliance and
effective program implementation.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership
Serve
on senior management team and provide leadership to staff across all teams and
to colleagues across the globe who are operating or seek to build the business.
- Seek
to find synergies among projects and identify mechanisms for project teams
to share information, convene and operationalize the access.mobile
business strategy.
- Take
an active role in building the capacity of others. As a member of the
senior management team, identify opportunities to develop staff and guide
performance leaders to leverage existing tools, such as stretch
assignments, promotions, training, etc.
- Provide
leadership to country office managers to ensure best practices are applied
across all teams and efficiencies are gained.
- Offer
perspective and feedback to the senior management team on company strategy
and growth plans.
- Oversee
the execution of performance management objectives and the review process
Finance,
Budgeting, and Reporting
Manage
the finance and budgeting functions and create regular reports for internal and
external stakeholders.
- Directly
supervise office managers to ensure compliance, optimal performance and
career development.
- Support
development of budgets for proposals, including costing information and
liaising with project teams globally.
- Oversee
finance operations throughout Africa, including expenditures,
disbursements, procurement and reconciliation of bank accounts.
- Develop
monthly, quarterly and annual country program overhead and facilities
budgets in collaboration with country office managers and headquarters and
manage expenditures against budgets, informing CEO of current or
anticipated variances
- Create
monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports by country and by program
area in collaboration with country office managers and country sales teams
and headquarters
- Oversee
production of customary reports, such as financial and stakeholder
reports.
- Monitor,
track and support external reporting to stakeholder’s donors for quality,
timeliness and accuracy.
- Update
and provide to senior management team a report reflecting all projects in
Africa to facilitate operations and serve as communication tool to
executive team and access.mobile staff globally.
- Liaise
with the US bookkeepers and accountants as needed
Operations
Management
Manage
and improve local practices in accordance with access.mobile policies and
procedures, stakeholder requirements, and local government requirements.
- Ensure
compliance with all relevant local laws and regulations, including those
regarding labor, taxes, and registration.
- Ensure
all access.mobile resources, including office space and equipment, are in
good order and adequate for smooth running of the country program.
- Supervise
office managers and including their administrative processes related to
staff and consultant travel, contracts administration, payroll and taxes,
employee timekeeping, purchasing, organizing meetings, vendor agreements,
and office services.
- Support
regional HR and HQ to ensure onboarding, recruiting, training and
off-boarding are effectively managed. Participate in onboarding new staff
to operations functions.
- Liaise
with local and regional legal firm(s) as required regarding office
registration and tax exempt status; track annual registration renewals and
tax requirements; and maintain office registration and required employment
documentation.
- Set
up new country offices as needed
Required

- Demonstrated
success meeting reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Proven
attention to detail while managing multiple tasks with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated
success establishing collaborative relationships across various working
groups and projects and stakeholders.
- Proven
success recognizing and resolving problems independently and in
collaboration with local and headquarters leadership.
- Ability
to manage a distributed team and work across countries and time zones.
- Excellent
organizational and documentation practices and the ability to provide
leadership for compliance with access.mobile, stakeholder and government
requirements.
- Proficiency
in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Xero accounting software and familiarity
with CRM systems including Zoho.
- Ability
to live in Nairobi and travel up to 30% time
Required
Experience:
- Masters
degree in business administration, management, finance or a related field
plus a minimum of five years of experience in administrative and financial
management preferably with a public health, digital health, or technology
focus organization.
- Experience
developing and overseeing technical and operational teams and activities
among multi-disciplinary international teams as well as experience living
and working in an African country.
- Excellent
organizational, record-keeping and documentation skills, with attention to
details.
