Sogea Satom is one of the leading international building and civil engineering companies in Africa with presence in about 20 countries within the continent. 

We manage the permanent operations of Vinci Construction in Africa.  

Our core activities are road and earth works, hydraulic engineering, civil engineering and building.

We have been awarded a contract in Kenya that will commence in 2016. 


We are looking to fill a number of positions with qualified Kenyan nationals to work on the project site once the project commences.


Site Administrative Manager
  • Will serve as the right hand of the Project Manager
  • Experience managing communities around work sites, local authorities, personnel on site, managing site agents, public relations, problem solving skills
  • At least 20 years management experience, experience working in a project site will be an added advantage
  • Manage works on site according to safety, quality and environment rules of the company and client requirements
  • Exerts authority and influence over stakeholders
  • Ensure correct application of company procedures
  • Serves as liaison person for the company – through application of great interpersonal, communication and people skills. s/he facilitates communication among stake holders and manages communication channels
Procurement Manager
  • Manage consultations and analyze offers and negotiations
  • Follow-up purchases (sourcing suppliers, orders and deliveries)
  • Handle suppliers complaints and non-conformity of purchases
  • Establish contracts with the transporters and the forwarding agents
  • Coordinate the transporters, forwarding agents and follow up imports and exports (exemptions and customs formalities)
  • Handle transit documentation (collection, positioning of goods, forwarding administrative documents)
  • At least 15 years procurement experience, experience working in a project site is a requirement
Contract Manager / Quantity Surveyor
  • Knowledge of YELLOW FIDIC contracts
  • Study and analyze the financial and administrative part of the site
  • Show the difference between the referent FIDIC contracts
  • Write all documents (monthly reports, claims, requests, variations) in accordance with the FIDIC contract
  • Participate in various site meetings
  • Prepare the APC and IPC with the QS of the control office and submit a validation of his superiors
  • Min 10 years relevant experience
Superintendent / Supervisor / Foreman – Civil Works
  • Ensure respect of the schedule and efficiency of work
  • Supervise the site daily and prepare deliveries
  • Supervise the sub-contractors on site
  • Participate in the elaboration of working procedures on site
  • Manage teams and equipment
  • Organize the teams according to the tasks to be carried and take all necessary measures for the proper execution of these tasks (PPE, temporary Signage on site, SPA…)
  • Ensure the rational use of the resources available and define the extra needs if necessary with site management
  • Ensure respect of the specifications of the contract and ensure the use of approved documents and quality of the work
  • Monitor the consumption of the teams (concrete, materials etc) and the indicators of profitability of his work
  • Supervise preparation of daily reports
  • Carry out the necessary checks to ensure the quality of work and ensure the treatment of non-compliance
  • Ensure the maintenance and proper use of the equipment at his disposal
  • Min 7 years’ experience
Electrical Engineer

S/he will be responsible for the design, developing and maintaining of all electrical control systems, machinery and equipment on the work site.
  • Testing installations and systems, and analyzing data
  • Making sure projects meet electrical and construction safety regulations
  • Overseeing inspection and maintenance programs
  • Uses various equipment and tools to manage the design, construction and maintenance of various electrical systems and components, including power distribution and telecommunications, in buildings and structures.
  • Supervises operation of cranes and concrete batching plants
  • Follows applicable building codes and safety regulations in electrical engineering
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Mechanical Engineer
  • Designs, develops, and tests all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, and machinery.
  • Applies knowledge of engineering principles to design products such as engines, instruments, controls, robots, machines, etc.
  • May be involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and/or repair of mechanical products.
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Civil Engineer
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
  • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
  • Direct construction, operations, and maintenance activities at project site.
  • Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Cost Control Engineer
  • Monitors, identifies and analyses all projects costs with a view of facilitating the completion of the project at minimum cost and within budget limits.
  • Monitors and analyses all the progress of the construction activities, identifies any variances between the planned and actual progress and advises project management of their impact on the overall program. Also suggests remedial action as necessary.
  • Responsible to control and monitor project total expenditure including verifying and checking of invoices and claims from suppliers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure that all project expenditures are captured and properly recorded. 
  • Provide planning and cost controlling support for all projects which includes variation reporting, monitoring of milestone progress to the preparation of customer billing processes, etc 
  • Perform and manage project activity scheduling and monitoring
  • Monitor the status of all purchases, invoicing and delivery up to the closure of the project.
  • Perform project costing related reporting to the team and management’s review on a monthly basis to ensure that expenditures are kept within the project budget.
  • Provide cost control and planning advice to the internal PMT team as and when required.
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Lab Engineer
  • Ensure verification of materials, supplies and works performed in accordance with the contract requirements
  • Participate in the creation and setting up laboratory team and equipment on site
  • Establish and follow the schedule of inspections and tests in accordance with current standards
  • Manage checklists and ensure the traceability of samples and tests
  • Establish the analysis and test reports
  • Analyze testing results with the project team and advise on measures to be taken in case of anomalies
  • Carry out duties in the laboratory and in the field, with resources in staff and equipment
  • Check maintenance and standardization of equipment
  • Organize document filing for the laboratory department
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Lab Technician
  • The Laboratory Technician is responsible for testing (Concrete and Soil) and ensuring the quality of raw materials.
  • Testing, design and quality control of construction materials.
  • Advising clients and civil engineers on construction materials and their application, both in meetings and on construction sites.
  • resolving problems - especially with unusual soil and aggregate samples, and special concrete mix designs;
  • Attend contract planning and site meetings when special construction material related matters are discussed;
  • Min 5 years’ experience
Surveyor
  • Lead and plan topographic teams
  • Communicate with the site teams (site manager, site agent) in order to anticipate:
  1. The set up required for proper progress of work
  2. The preparation of bills of quantities and approvals
  • The various movements of topographic teams on site or outside
  • Prepare and optimize layouts
  • Check topographic features given by the Engineer and raise issues to the Site Manager /Agent
  • Supervise topographic approvals with the project management office
  • Manage checklists and daily reports
  • Monitor, maintain and verify the standardization and conformity of topographical equipment
  • Min 7 years’ experience
HSE Officer
  • Assist the site manager in the implementation of safety procedures
  • Ensure the organization of work (preparation of tasks, protective equipment ...)
  • Raise awareness about safety and the environment and monitor the implementation of instructions
  • Manage safety equipment (follow procurement and inventory, check the compliance of facilities ...)
  • Make reports and investigations following dangerous situations, accidents, incidents ...

Security Officer
  • Responsible for a safe and secure environment of the site and other SOGEA SATOM offices
  • Manages all security personnel assigned to the company
  • Knows and understand post orders assigned posts, is alert and observant and communicates unusual activity.
  • Observes and reports to deter theft, vandalism, and illegal entry at work sites.
  • Periodically reports on security status and recommends measures to improve security on work sites and offices
  • Write detailed narrative reports and maintain daily activity reports (DARs)
  • Enforce rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and respond to emergency situations requiring security assistance
  • Ex – policeman and/or military with a minimum of 10 years’ experience candidate is highly desirable
Quality Officer (ISO Certification)
  • Represent the top management for the Quality Safety Environment Management System
  • Head of the QSE certification: ISO 9001 / OSHAS 18001 / ISO 14001
  • Ensure the implementation and the relevance of the QSE policy for the objectives
  • Ensure that the necessary processes for the QSE management system are established, implemented and maintained
  • Lead Quality department team and set the priorities and quality relay lines of work on site
  • Provide training and sensitization for the proper functioning of the QSE system
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the QSE system through audits and site visits
  • Check that the improvement actions decided by management and processes are shared with all sites
  • Ensure the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions and management of QSE indicators
  • Manage documents and records of the QSE Management system
  • Advise the construction teams and validate procedures and the Quality Assurance Plan for the site
  • Define the quality level requirements for subcontracted services

Tower Crane Operator
  • Operates and ensures maintenance of all travelling, fixed or climbing type cranes with a vertical tower and a job
  • Operating cranes to life, move or place equipment and materials
  • Inspecting cranes and calculating capacities
  • Assembling lower cranes on site
  • Performing routine crane maintenance such as cleaning and lubrication
  • Complete job tickets, service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork.
  • Lift, position and place machinery, equipment or other large objects at construction sites and industrial facilities.
  • Drive trucks to worksites and unload trucks.
  • Technical Diploma and minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience
Mobile Crane Operator
  • Operates all mobile cranes
  • Assembles and properly sets-up Mobile Cranes, and performs boom changes when required. 
  • Reads and interprets Crane load charts.  Programs various Crane computers to the proper configurations for each job.
  • Performs all OSHA and ANSI required annual inspections on mobile cranes.  Ensures cranes are properly serviced at the appropriate time as specified by manufacturer.
  • Operates various size forklifts loading and unloading tractor trailers.
  • Technical Diploma and minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience
Batching Plant Operator
  • Position is responsible for the set up and tear down, operation, maintenance and record keeping of portable concrete batch plant. Manage controls to heat, weigh and mix aggregate, cement, and water to produce concrete that conforms to processing specifications
  • Coordinate and monitor daily work load throughout the plant; monitor plant cleanliness.
  • Oversee all maintenance and mobilizing of the mobile concrete batch plant.
  • Ensure that all products meet 100% total quality requirements; take samples and test as necessary;
  • Complete all required reports timely and accurately; inform proper personnel of any quality problems that need resolving.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment continually remain in safe and efficient operating condition;. § Ensure that all company safety regulations and policies are followed at ALL times.
  • Technical Diploma and minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience
Site Accountant
  • Responsible for the accounting operations at the project site
  • Participate in the formation and implementation financial plans
  • Preparation of all monthly financial reports
  • Provide reporting and budgeting as required by Senior Management.
  • Manage company and project cash flow
  • Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable staff and functions.
  • Work with project management staff ensuring proper compliance with accounting procedures including reviewing and analyzing job cost estimates and reports monthly.
  • Develop written accounting procedures for the operations staff and work with team to ensure proper implementation and compliance.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Store Keepers ( 4 positions – mechanical store, pipeline fittings store, concrete, cement, reinforcement store, General store - ladies preferred)
 
The Store Keeper is in charge of controlling all the storage activities with an accurate monitoring (material in/out). 

S/He is also in charge of the protection and the Security of the Goods up until their installation
  • Monitoring the quantities available on stock with a clear picture of the material delivered (to whom and when).
  • Report on periodic basis on the exact quantities available in the stock.
  • Check all materials when they arrive on Site and immediately input these new items in the Stock list
  • Prepare checkout vouchers following the request for materials which have been approved by the PM
  • Protect all delivered goods on Site in order to avoid any damage
  • Verify articles against purchase orders or packing lists and count and inspect materials for damage or defects.
  • Research discrepancies in purchase orders and duplicate orders and report the same.
  • Track material usage and establish reorder points.
  • 2 – 3 years relevant experience
Welder
  • Supervise construction and welding operations
  • Carry out tasks while respecting the QSE rules
  • Respect the deadlines and quality expected for work done
  • Coordinate with the site team
  • Register the construction works carried out and monitor the welding
  • Report and handle non-conformities
  • Know the procedures to follow in case of an accident
  • Detect near misses on the site and inform the managers about the potential risks
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
IT Assistant
  • Manage data input and update for SOGEMAT software
  • IT hardware and software management on site
  • Periodic reporting to relevant parties
  • 2 – 3 years relevant experience
Personnel Assistant
  • Keep personnel records
  • In charge of time/attendance at the site for purposes of payroll
  • Ensure discipline and adherence to work site rules and regulations
  • 2 -3  years relevant experience
