RTI anticipates staffing the following expertise in long term job positions for donor funded Tusome Early Grade Reading and Tayari Early Childhood Development and Education Project.

Tusome is focused on curriculum support, teacher training and teaching material development to improve the quality of early grade instruction in formal and non-formal schools through a reading intervention. Tayari is focused on pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills development for school readiness. 

Job Title: Driver

6 Positions (Nakuru, Isiolo, Wajir, Mombasa, Nanyuki and Eldoret)

Job Summary:
 Drive project / office staff members, consultants and other visitors on project / office business. 

S/he will ensure that the vehicles have all required registrations / licensing and inspections, and that necessary documentation is retained with the vehicle, sufficient amount of gas. 

He/she will maintain the vehicles’ cleanliness and its security and maintain a record of trips including kilometers traveled, fuel consumed and dates of oil changes, all according to established reporting framework. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A minimum 5 years relevant experience with valid Kenya driver’s license; 
  • proof of good driving record; 
  • Previous work in the Not for Profit sector and familiarity is through rural terrain preferred. 
  • Oral and written English and Kiswahili language fluency 
  • Candidates from the local county locations preferred.

Job Title: Admin Assistant

5 Positions (Eldoret, Nanyuki, Mombasa, Isiolo and Wajir)

Job Summary: ensures that administrative systems in the field office are conducted according to all RTI policies, client regulations, standard operating procedures and good business practices. 

In addition, he/she provides reception, secretarial, administrative and logistics support management to the field staff. 

She / he will facilitate effective communication between the Field Office, Project Office in Nairobi and its key clients and partners. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  • A minimum of three (3) years relevant experience and a Higher Diploma in Administration or Secretarial studies;
  • Additional qualification in office management, business management or accounting preferred. 
  • Experience in logistics management, organizing workshops and training courses, preparing and monitoring budgets and petty cash management in an international organization preferred. 
  • Previous work in the Not for Profit sector and familiarity with donor reporting requirements is preferred. 
  • Candidates from the local county locations preferred.

Job Title:Accountant

1 Position, Nairobi

Job Summary: will be responsible for providing support in overseeing smooth accounting, and tax operations of project efforts including field activities, linking with administrative and logistical teams on key procurement tasks for implementation of project activities within Tusome Early Grade Reading Activity. 

S/he works with the Finance Director in ensuring effective and efficient invoices tracking, vendor engagement, and follow through DA1 processes. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Bachelor Degree in Finance related field, 
  • CPA part II or equivalent and 2 years of experience in the finance department of a USAID funded project, 
  • Knowledge of general finance and accounting procedures. 
  • Experience with Supplier payments and invoice processing.
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills. 
  • She /he needs to be a detailed oriented person with excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team and to learn complex procedures. 
  • The potential candidate needs to have the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and to take initiative. 
  • In-depth understanding of major donors such as USAID and DFID tax regulations and procurement procedures a plus.

Job Title:Administrative Officer

1 Position, Nairobi

Job Summary: is responsible for providing support in overseeing the smooth operation of project efforts and field activities, general administrative and logistical support for implementation of project activities within Tusome Early Grade Reading and Tayari Early Childhood Development and Education Project. 

S/he works with the Senior Administrative Coordinator and is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of project-specific administrative support activities. 

S/he coordinates with and assists other admin staff as needed as a member of the projects. 

Required Qualifications and Experience: 
  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or office administration or similar. 
  • She/he needs to have five (5) years’ experience in office operations and procurement and in providing administrative support preferably within an International Organization. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • She /he needs to be a detailed oriented with excellent interpersonal skills person and demonstrated ability to work in a team and to learn complex procedures.
  • The potential candidate needs to have the ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and to take initiative. 
  • Willingness to travel extensively within Kenya as needed. 
  • Experience working with major donors such as USAID and DFID is a plus.

Job Title: Program Assistant

1 Position, Nairobi

Job Summary: is responsible for supporting the smooth operation of technical efforts and field activities by providing administrative, operational, and logistical support for technical activities of the project through the Office of the Chief of Party. 

She / he works closely with Chief of Party and the project Senior Leadership Team to support the day-to-day operations and administrative management of the technical project activities. 

She / he will ensure that that tasks are carried through to completion and that information is disseminated to both internal and external stakeholders accordingly. 

She / he coordinates all communication with and support to the project by working closely with Finance, Administration, Operations, Programs as required by the Chief of Party. 

Additionally, she / he is knowledgeable about the technical project result areas, work plan implementation, and scheduled technical reporting through regular interaction with the technical team as required by the Chief of Party 

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/ Management with a sound knowledge of project or office management and experience in documentation. 
  • At least five years’ experience in providing administrative support to project leadership on a donor-funded program

Job Title:Procurement Officer

1 Position, Nairobi

Job Summary: will be responsible for communicating with supplier community and procuring project material and services. 

She/he will solicit and advertise the procurement requirements to suppliers and carry out procurement practice with integrity through fair and open competition. 

In addition, the Procurement Officer will demonstrate compliance with applicable requirements (RTI policies, USAID/FAR regulations) and ensure that the technical efforts in procurement adhere to the standard operating procedures and good business practice. 

She/he will support the timely and effective implementation of project’s technical scope of work and aligned to the global or regional agreements where available. 

The day to day activity of this position encompasses all aspects of supply chain from supplier identification to delivery and post procurement support. She/he works in a team inclusive of Finance, Administration/HR, Technical and Field Operations on a day-to-day basis related to Procurement and Property Control. 

As a member of the Team, She/he will be responsible in contributing to issues resolution, resources, planning and Procurement. 

Required Qualifications and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in in Supply Chain Management or related field and certificate(s) in Procurement from a recognized institution or organization. 
  • She /he needs to have a minimum 3 years’ experience in Procurement and Inventory Control. 
  • Knowledge of USAID procurement rules and regulations and experience in Procurement software will be an added advantage.

Job Title:Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Assistant

1 Position – Kisumu (1)

Job Summary: : will work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Director and is responsible for supporting M&E initiatives for the program. 

She / he will; ensure accurate and valid data management, undertake data entry, and ensure that essential and ongoing M&E data is properly accounted for. 

The M&E Assistant will also oversee special studies, contribute to study reports, and to regular reporting. 

She / he will provide direct assistance to build clients’ capabilities in M&E and act as a trainer of other technical assistance providers as needed. 

Required qualifications and experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Statistics or a related field with at least three years of experience in monitoring & evaluation. 
  • Experience in M&E capacity building for individuals and organizations required. 
  • Previous M&E experience in a donor funded program desired. 
  • Proficiency in evaluation design and development of indicators; designing and conducting small-scale operations research studies; and good working knowledge of descriptive and inferential statistics required.

Job Title: Education Assistant

2 Positions – Wajir (1) and Isiolo (1) 

The positions will be based in the counties of Nairobi, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, Wajir, Isiolo and Nanyuki.

Job Summary:
 He/She will provide support to Tusome technical activities such as materials development, organization of technical workshops and training of TAC Tutors, head-teachers, teachers and data collectors. 

She /will work with RTI technical staff to help implement instructional approaches to be used in Tusome. 

S/he will provide support for TAC Tutors working to implement revised lesson guides as well as assist with activities related to conducting research studies. 

Required qualifications and experience:  
  • B.A. or B.ED and five (5) years of experience working in Education sector;
  • Experience with data collection and research studies, teacher training and MoEST support, especially related to literacy programs; 
  • Experience supervising and training data collectors; 
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili and English instruction in Kenya; 
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. 
  • Candidates from the local county locations preferred.

Job Title: Education Training Specialist

3 Positions – Eldoret (1), Wajir (1) and Isiolo (1) 

The positions will be based in the counties of Nairobi, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, Wajir, Isiolo and Nanyuki.

Job Summary:
 He/She will have key technical responsibilities for Tusome, under the guidance of the Senior Education Specialist. 

S/he will have the responsibility of training TAC Tutors, head-teachers and teachers in the implementation of early grade literacy approaches. 

S/he will liaise with the government institutions and education officials and coordinate, supervise and support all aspects of training delivery and provide in-school support. 

Required qualifications and experience: 
  • Master’s Degree in education with 6 years or relevant experience or Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in developing teacher training curricula and coordinating teacher training activities and inputs. 
  • Significant experience in education development for literacy at early grade levels necessary, established working relationships with education government counterparts for improved literacy performance.
  • Proven ability as a facilitator/trainer and willingness to travel to support training in field sites is required.
  • Full proficiency in Excel, Word, and other MS Office software and strong presentation and facilitation skills is necessary. 
  • Candidates from the local county locations preferred.

Job Title: Education Officer
2 Positions - Wajir (1) and Isiolo (1) 

The positions will be based in the counties of Nairobi, Eldoret, Nakuru, Mombasa, Wajir, Isiolo and Nanyuki.

Job Summary: He/She will provide technical support for the implementation of technical reading activities, development of assessment for reading in English and Kiswahili, development of instructional material, including lesson guides and contribute to the revision of the same and also train and support TAC Tutors on specified frameworks as funded by the client and agreed with by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST). 

Required qualifications and experience: 
  • B.A. / B.Ed. and eight (8) years of experience in the education sector, M.A./M.Ed. preferred; 
  • Understanding of scientifically-based reading research; 
  • Knowledge of a balanced early literacy framework understanding; 
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili and English transition instruction strategies; 
  • Familiarity with the policies and procedures of the MoEST and local school communities.
