Job Title: Generator Technician
Job Summary: Generator Technician provides daily generator checks up and repairs by following the regular major inspection schedules for generator maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and repair the generators at any AFEX
camp as required.
- Ensure sufficient fuel and oil in the
generator at all times
- Complete daily checks on the generator to
identify defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure
compliance with AFEX standard
- Follow the regular major Inspection schedule
for the generator maintenance.
- Ensure vehicles are roadworthy; check in for
routine services and maintenance and keeping records of journey’s and
repairs
- Ensure that stocks of spares are kept to avoid
downtime including batter water, oils, plugs, and filters.
- Work with in AFEX health and Safety guide
lines when disposing of toxic material.
- Ensure the generator maintenance log book is
updated immediately.
- Carry out fault diagnosis and carry out
forward planning on assigned work/projects
- Ensure most economical and effective layout of
electrical installations together with achieving high level of
productivity in work assigned
- Ensure operatives, apprentices and assistants
under control carry out all works to required standards
- Ensure spares or materials lists are compiled
in good time for work assigned
- Ensure having adequate hand tools to carry out
duties
- Ensure all resources allocated are safely and
securely stored while in possession and ensure that returned in a
reasonable and appropriate timescales
- Carrying out site visits as and when requested
by the Department Manager.
- Complete all paperwork such as time sheets and
expense claims in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure that issues and risks are escalated to
Management to allow adequate investigation and resolution.
- Ensure that all actions are considerate and
compliant with the quality standards, health and safety standards and
Company standards.
- Observe and demonstrate behavior in line with
the core values of the Company.
- Approach situations with a responsible,
tenacious and accountable attitude
- Ensure all identified problems and causes for
concern are reported to Department Manager immediately and recorded.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- Diploma in Mechanics/Electrical or related
field
- Must have a valid driving license
- Working experience in remote areas will be an
added advantage.
- Minimum of at least three (3) years of
experience in a wide range of power plants, including troubleshooting,
repairing and installation of diesel and petrol generators and
distribution system is required.
- Must have vehicle maintenance experience
- Working experience in electrical equipment,
maintenance and repairs of pumps, motors, electrical panels and circuits,
office and residential wiring is required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all masonry duties within AFEX
establishments.
- Construct concrete structures such as
footings, foundations, floors, inspection chambers, and septic tanks.
- Marking out, constructing formwork, preparing
base, mixing concrete, pouring, and finishing the surface.
- Safe, correct, and economical mixing of
materials such as sand ballast and cement according to specifications.
- Accurate, straight and level laying of bricks,
blocks, or tiles.
- Plastering of walls, sculpting inspection
chambers.
- Prepare or work from sketches, plans, and
specifications in accord with the building code or approved trade
practices.
General Responsibilities:
- To carryout routine preventative maintenance
in line with job schedule and/or SOPs.
- Ensure cost efficient use of department
materials and equipment.
- Work together with department staff and
employees to provide an efficient maintenance service.
- Communicate and coordinate with superiors to
ensure safe and smooth running of camps with minimum disruption to client.
- Keeping tools of trade secure and in good
condition, reporting damages and losses immediately to supervisor.
- Keeping adequate stock of essential
maintenance spares and advising supervisor in good time when materials
require reordering.
- Any other works as directed by supervisor.
Working Safe:
- Ensure that any work is done in line with
AFEX’s Health and Safety guidelines.
- Must always, as far as is practicable, work
with a 'buddy' in case of an incident.
- Must be aware of the dangers and risks
specific to trade.
- Must be aware of what PPE is appropriate for
the tasks being undertaken.
- Must be aware of the correct methods of manual
handling, and risks of lifting heavy loads.
- Must be aware of the risks of working at
heights including work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs.
- Must be aware of the risks of working in
enclosed/confined spaces, including trenches and tanks.
- Must be aware of the fire risks and what
action to take in the event of a fire.
- Must be aware of when a permit to work if
required for certain tasks.
- Must be aware of when Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
procedure must be followed.
- Safely cordon off area of work from public
before commencement of works.

- Prepare construction sites by levelling,
cleaning the ground and laying out work accurately using chalk lines,
plumb bobs, tapes, framing squares and string or line levels.
- Fill pipes or plumbing fixtures with water or
air and observe pressure gauges to detect and locate leaks.
- Review blueprints and building codes and
specifications to determine work
- details and procedures.
- Study building plans and inspect structures to
assess material and equipment
- needs, to establish the sequence of pipe
installations, and to plan installation
- around obstructions such as electrical wiring.

Job Title: Steel Fixer
Summary: Steel fixer fit and secures the steel bars and
mesh used to reinforce concrete on construction and engineering
sites.
They may also work in pre-cast
concrete plants, as well as in areas of pre-stressing, post-stressing and
tensioning, using hydraulic jacks and tensioning mechanisms.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Setting out the work area following
engineering plans
- Using hand and power tools to cut and bend
bars or mesh
- Tying rebar (reinforcement bars) together with
wire, clips or welds to build up cages or sections
- Fitting spacers and ‘chairs’ (supports)
- Fixing the formwork and shuttering used to
hold setting concrete in place
- Joining cages and sections and Fixing steel to
concrete bases
- Installing beams and pre-cast slabs
- Reading and interpreting working plans and
steel lists for the job
- Making steel bars or meshing the required
length by cutting them with bolt cutters, guillotines or power saws
- Assembling the reinforcing bars or mesh by
welding, wiring or clipping into predetermined locations within the
concrete
- Fabricating steel reinforcement such as beams,
footing pads or special units
- Joining prefabricated units together for large
sections of high rise or civil projects, and position the reinforcement
ready for concrete pours.
Personal Requirements:
- At least a diploma in Civil engineering or
Building and construction engineering.
- 2-3 years of work experience in similar role.
- Able to cope with the physical demands of the
job.
- Able to work as part of a team.
