Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI)/Walter Reed Project, HIV Program Kericho carries out HIV/AIDS research and provides care and treatment to persons affected in the South Rift Valley region.

We are seeking to recruit qualified persons to fill the following vacant positions:

Assistant IT Manager 
(One Post)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Rapid application development:

  1. System analysis and design
  2. Programming
  3. Database creation and maintenance
  • Network setup, maintenance and troubleshooting of network equipment.
  • Microsoft Windows Network administration and user support; MS Active Directory, MS Exchange, DHCP, DNS, ISA etc). Specific tasks will include:
  1. Managing the network
  2. Setting up users in the network
  3. Provide user training and general support in network use
  4. E-mail setup
  5. Ensure effective use of application software
  • Manage the IT inventory and advise the organization on IT hardware/software to procure.
  • Installation of new hardware/software as well as maintenance of existing hardware/software.
  • Back up data into backup media and securing them.
  • Prepare, review and update Standard Operating Procedures and policies for the unit and its partners.
  • Setup and manage barcode printing as stipulated by the laboratory and /or research protocols.
  • Provide data and IT Support to all running and upcoming research protocols.
  • Work with the IT Manager in the management of IT activities and resources within the unit.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT related field (information technology, information systems, business information systems, information sciences, computer science).
  • Professional training in MCSE is a must.
  • Proficiency in Visual Basic and related databases is required.
  • At least 2 years experience in a busy IT environment.
Additional Requirements:
  • CCNA.
  • Experience in clinical trials research is an added advantage.
  • Ability to nurture good working relationships with the partner Sites.
  • Good team worker with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Nurse / Study Coordinator
(One Post)

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and oversee implementation of ongoing and future studies under the micro-hub laboratory.
  • Oversee the conduct of research to ensure compliance with the approved protocols.
  • Develop, direct and coordinate a quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) program for Micro-hub field sites.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality by ensuring patient Case Report Forms (CRFs) are well handled and stored.
  • Carry out QA/QC on Study consent forms and Case Report Forms.
  • Ensure completeness of data in the Case Report Forms (CRF) before data entry.
  • Support field staff in establishing of work priorities, schedules and goals.
  • Generate reports / updates on QA/QC activities to the Micro-hub in-charge.
  • Carry out any other duties assigned by the Micro-hub in-charge.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
  • Should be a registered nurse.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related work experience including 2 years in supervisory position.
  • Demonstrated experience with data collection and QA in the field.
  • Should have experience with research protocols.
  • Should have experience working with MOH facilities.
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of clinical medicine and good clinical practices (GCP) concepts.
  • Knowledge of general medical / health research study design concepts and human subjects protection.
  • Knowledge on data management and analysis methods.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
  • Proficiency in office automation (e.g. word processing, spreadsheets and preferably small database management systems).
  • Excellent management, organization and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work in Kericho and travel to different sites for duty requirements.
