Technical Assistant for camel milk marketing groups in Garissa and Fafi districts supported by Arid and Marginal Lands Recovery (ARC) project.

CARE International in Kenya (CIK) is supporting groups engaged in alternative and complementary livelihood options in four districts in Northern Kenya. Milk marketing groups are targeted among the groups and currently the organisation is supporting groups in Garissa and Fafi districts.

CIK is looking for an institution to provide technical assistants to the groups for a period of 32 days spread within six months starting from December 2010.

Scope of work

Specific activities will include and not restricted to: -

·         Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the existing groups that CIK plans to work with and establish the baseline with clear capacity needs, gaps and recommendations

·         Based on findings of the assessment, draw up a strategy for the groups including a detailed work-plan and comprehensive budget for capacity-building including trainings, infrastructural support, market linkages all with clear time-lines of implementation and sequencing.

·         Work with the milk marketing groups to develop an efficient value-chain that ensure timely collection and distribution system of milk so as to reduce milk spoilage and wastage.

·         Explore different milk-marketing system, establishment of milk canteens, milk bars in Garissa and any other strategic location as well as look for markets outside districts.

·         Establish a monitoring system that is comprehensive with clear targets and graduation bench marks for the group
