What we are looking for
The overall responsibility of the Health Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) expert will be to provide input on M&E and
programmatic aspects of health programmes in HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis on a day to day basis. This is a
regional role based in Nairobi and will cover several countries in Sub Saharan Africa.

The key responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide technical advice on tropical disease in line with the disease and country context for health programmes implemented country wide
  • Conduct an assessment of the capacity of implementing partners in the field of M&E and provide advice! recommendations on the capacity gaps identified to strengthen the monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Provide input for the budget and work plan review process to ensure that all programmatic aspects have been captured and accurately budgeted for
  • Review and verify progress of implementation on a periodic basis; identifying implementation bottlenecks in health and M&E related issues and providing appropriate recommendations
  • Maintain cooperative relationship with all key stakeholders in the health sector including implementing partners, policy makers and donor partners
  • Participate in external supervision and evaluation missions of the donor mission to the country
The person
The selected candidate will possess at least a Masters Degree in Public Health/Health Sciences or Social Sciences from a recognized university with over 7 years Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) related experience in the field of tropical diseases (HIV/AIDS, Malaria and TB) preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa.
They will have extensive knowledge of M&E methodologies, strong background in health programmes, a good understanding of routine health information systems and excellent knowledge of M&E principles and practices in the health/development sector.
Essential attributes for this role are a good understanding of the country context and environment, be independent and professional in executing the role, ensure quality service & consistency, ability to travel and work in several countries within the region, and solid experience in the management of people and systems in high-pressure environments.
Working knowledge of French will be an added advantage.
