Deputy Coordinator – Kenya Land Alliance Jobs

Kenya Land Alliance (KLA) is an umbrella network set up to coordinate the efforts and activities of member organizations and individuals participating in the formulation and implementation of national land policies and land law reforms in Kenya. As a facilitative body, the Network’s role is to create an enabling mechanism for its members to organize their respective constituencies in developing and communicating their ideas, concerns and recommendations to accomplish positive change.
Kenya Land Alliance seeks to recruit a dynamic individual for the position of Deputy Coordinator to be based at the secretariat office in Nakuru, Kenya.
Reporting to the National Coordinator, the successful candidate will be charged with the overall management of projects at KLA and assisting the National Coordinator in representing the organization at local, regional and international stakeholders’ forums.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Guiding the development and implementation of the Annual Operating Plans and Budgets
  • Providing leadership and operational management skills to the network’s secretariat staff as required to achieve the network’s mandate.
  • Presenting operational and progress reports to the network’s Management Committee
  • Leading regular programme meetings

  • Facilitating issues networking and information sharing locally, regionally and globally.
  • Promoting team work among staff members and managing the projects within the network
  • Identifying and promoting key policy influencing opportunities at the national level
  • Commissioning and overseeing research in order to exploit the identified policy influencing opportunities.
  • Organizing workshops, seminars and other network activities for the stakeholders as platforms for networking and lobbying.
  • Assisting in the review and updating of the Network’s management structure and agreements.
  • Ensuring that the network operational and management systems enable network members to achieve their common goal and objectives.
Minimum requirements:
The ideal candidate should have:
  • A university degree in social sciences, or policy orientation with experience in programmes conceptualization, management and implementation
  • At least three years experience in the NGO/Civil Society Sector at managerial level.
  • Proven leadership and good interpersonal skills along with effective human resource management and ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Acceptable financial and physical resource management skills as well as experience in advocacy in relation to external stakeholders and the general public
  • Highly developed networking ability and evident capacity to relate and manage with apt sensitivity across cultures, institutions, gender and personal circumstances.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with good mastery of English and Kiswahili languages.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office computer applications.
  • Willingness to be based in Nakuru and ability to engage in travel on the job.
