Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibility
- Provide
legal opinion to the Commission;
- Carryout
legal Research and prepare reports;
- Coordinate
Legal interns and ensure they are adequately engaged;
- Provide
mentorship to legal officers ;
- Monitor,
supervise, train and develop the Legal Officers/ Interns; and
- Monitor
progress on the review of Appeal/ Court cases and make recommendations for
improvement where necessary.
Operational Responsibility
- Enter
appearance and prepare pleadings on behalf of the Commission;
- Attend
Court to represent the Commission and render legal opinions to service
areas as requested;
- Prepare,
review and interpret legal instruments the Commission is party and
brief the manager on the outcome of Court cases and compliance thereof;
- Undertake
legal compliance audit;
- Prepare
witnesses for trial;
- Prepare
court attendance sheets;
- Undertake
legal research and advice on legal issues;
- Undertaking
research on different information to ensure the Commission is acting in
accordance with all applicable laws;
- Liaising
with external lawyers on all cases filed against the Commission to
ensure instructions, witnesses and statements are procured on time; and
- Representing
the Commission in litigation, Appeals and Policy matters and attend to
walk in clients at the division
Requirements
- Bachelor
of Law degree from a recognized institution;
- Admitted
as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya;
- A
supervisory course from a recognized institution;
- Six
(6) years of service with atleast three (3) years in a comparable position
from a reputable organization; and
- Proficiency
in computer applications.
Remuneration Package:
Gross Salary: As Per NPSC Salary
Scale
Terms of Service: Permanent and
Pensionable
Anual Leave: 30 working days per
financial year
Leave Allowance: As existing in the
Commission
Medical Cover: As existing in the
Commission
