Design Technology Teacher

The post holder is responsible to the Head Teacher for fulfilling his / her teaching duties and
responsibilities within the school.
Job Definition
  • To undertake the teaching of Design Technology at The Banda School.
  • To promote genuine interest and enthusiasm, and to allow all pupils to realise their learning potential within the subject areas.
Responsibilities
  • To take responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for all
    pupils in the designated class, within the framework of national and school policies.
  • To support and drive the ethos, aims and values of the school
  • To maintain and use assessment records and report on pupils’ progress to staff, and to
    parents and carers, in accordance with school policy.
  • To plan work for each class in accordance with national and curriculum policies and in cooperation with Heads of Department, to ensure that the pupils experience a broad, balanced, relevant and stimulating curriculum relevant to the age group being taught.
  • To liaise with the Head of Department and other members of the department concerning curriculum, schemes of work, teaching methods etc. to provide continuity and uniformity within the department.
  • To follow and implement school policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that the learning experience matches the individual needs of the pupils in your class – giving each child an opportunity to achieve to the best of his/her capability.
  • To evaluate your teaching and use this evaluation to improve and develop teaching
    strategies.
  • To make appropriate educational provision for pupils with learning difficulties and for those
    children with EAL, with support from The Banda’s Learning Support Department.
  • To create a secure, happy and stimulating environment, maintaining the highest standards
    of organisation and discipline.
  • To provide well-planned, creative and engaging learning experiences for pupils.
  • To liaise with parents concerning pupils’ progress and attend Parents’ Meetings to discuss
    the progress of pupils.
  • To write detailed reports on each pupil when required.
  • To perform duties, as requested by the Headmistress, for supervising the pupils outside the
    classroom e.g. Lunch/break.
  • To cover for any colleague who cannot attend school for any reason and to provide cover work for colleagues when absent from school.
  • To provide the Director of Teaching and Learning/Head of Department with detailed schemes of work and weekly planning and evaluation outlines.
  • To attend regular staff meetings and INSETS, before, during and after school hours, when required.
  • To run a Co-Curricular Programme activity once a week and assist in extra-curricular events when required.
  • To be committed to the School’s Continuing Professional Development programme.
  • To maintain professional levels of conduct and uphold the School’s dress code.
  • Involvement in running extra-curricular Design Technology sessions may be required that could mean working outside normal working hours.
  • In addition to the above, a Subject Teacher in the Upper School may also be a Form Tutor in charge of a class and be required to perform all of the associated duties.
Qualifications
  • Possess a degree or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Have experience of working in British Curriculum Schools.
  • Possess the desire to be fully involved in all aspects of the life in a leading preparatory school.
  • Be pro-active as a part of The Banda School team.

Geography Teacher

Job Description
To undertake the teaching of Geography at The Banda School and lead the department forwards with new initiatives and ideas, taking responsibility for planning and implementing appropriate work programmes for all pupils in the designated class, within the framework of national and school policies.
Responsibilities 
Curriculum
  • To continually review and update the current syllabus in the subject.
  • To keep up to date with current thinking and developments in the subject, especially Scholarship, Common Entrance and National Curriculum requirements.
  • To deliver a Scholarship Programme for those pupils sitting Scholarship papers to secondary schools if required.
  • Advise and oversee planning within the department through collaborative discussion.
  • To ensure that the use of iPads in the department is effective and is enhancing children’s
    learning.
  • Attend Curriculum Meetings as organised by the IAPS network of schools, and be prepared to host such meetings.
  • To set examination papers which are appropriate to the material covered, for Years 5-8.
Liaison
  • To liaise with the Head of the Lower School and Pegasus Early Years and the Heads of Key Stages 1 & 2 in order to be aware of the teaching of Geography throughout the school.
  • To advise the SLT on teaching allocations within the department.
  • Communicate with the Learning Support department regarding Geography specific needs of pupils.
  • Attend Heads of Department Meetings and hold regular departmental meetings and pass on the minutes to the Director of Teaching and Learning.
  • To participate in meetings with parents and colleagues at school which relate to the administration, organisation and curriculum of the department.
  • To organise regular trips to support learning and ensure continued enthusiasm for the subject throughout the school.
Leadership
  • To carry out regular observations of colleagues in the department and give constructive feedback.
  • To carry out regular work scrutiny of Geography throughout the school.
  • Provide leadership and give advice and assistance to all teachers of Geography throughout
    the school.
  • To be responsible for coordinating display work as required, ensuring that it meets a high
    standard and is changed at regular intervals.
Facilities and Resources

  • Control and monitor a budget as advised by the Finance Department and ensure that the budget is spent effectively on resourcing the department.
  • To be responsible for the rooms and equipment as allocated to the department.
Information and Reporting
  • To continually review the department’s strengths and weaknesses through Department Development Plans, meetings and Department Reviews.
  • To ensure that the Departmental Handbook is kept up to date.
  • To monitor, moderate, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils as required.
  • To ensure the maintenance of high standards of marking, progress and achievement through regular work scrutiny.
  • To take responsibility for contributions from the Geography Department to the school
    website and The Banda Log (school magazine).
  • To undertake any other administrative duties in respect of your employment as required by the Headmistress.
