Job Description
Responsibilities
·
Operational Support
o Provide support to the shift based teams during operations.
o Attends SBT and SBU meetings and ensures that the previous day’s
actions have been actioned.
o Assist shift based teams with situational problem solving.
o Coach the shift based teams on machine operation, machine fault
finding and correct responses to machine failure modes.
o Provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine
operation and maintenance to shift based teams.
o Review SIC’s and address deviations regularly.
o Development of work instructions related to equipment.
o Monitor and manage performance of equipment.
o Verify and ensure that machines are running at rated speed.
o Prepare and communicate shift handover reports to ensure
production continuity.
o Participate in technical meetings and escalate issues that could
not be resolved during the shift and follows up to ensure gap closure.
o Ability to stand in for the production team leader where
required.
o Ability to work shifts .

Planned Maintenance
o Carry out work during the planned maintenance window in
accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the planner.
o Where scheduled work cannot be completed, feed back to the
maintenance planner for direction. This may involve rescheduling the work or
prioritising outstanding work.
o Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks
during planned maintenance windows.
o Where required, partake in maintenance post mortems to feedback
problems, opportunities and learning’s from maintenance activities.
o Optimisation of maintenance schedules.
o Coach and train operators on autonomous maintenance tasks.
o Review Line KPI’s to ensure that maintenance work is yielding
the right results.

Routine Maintenance
o Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance
with the maintenance schedule issued by the maintenance planner.
o Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the
maintenance schedule.
o Where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance,
these must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques.
o Where problems have been uncovered, and it is required to
include the work in the planned maintenance schedule, this must be communicated
to the maintenance planner.

Running Repairs
·
Carry out running repairs on plant
and equipment.
·
When carrying out repairs, assess the
problem and determine a course of action.
·
Where running repairs cannot be
carried out, communicates this to the team leader and Maintenance Planner to
ensure the work is planned into the next planned maintenance window.

Problem Solving
o Apply the correct problem solving methodologies to resolve
problems.
o Assist and coach operators on situational problem solving.
o Solicit support for problems solving or escalate to the team for
direction.
o Where required, partake in systemic problem solving.
o Housekeeping and Safety
o Work in a safe manner at all times, and to identify and
highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected.
o Adhere to appropriate CCBA policies and procedures.
o Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the
execution of duties.

Support NPD implementation and trials
o Support NPD trials to be able to run on assets.
o Ensure adherence to NPD procedures.
o Ensure all changes on assets are well documented as per the
engineering change management business processes.

Training and Development
o Train and coach operators on asset care and autonomous

o Where required sign-off operators on autonomous maintenance
tasks.

Qualifications
Minimum requirement
Diploma in mechanical engineering and trade test instrumentation
Experience

2 years relevant technical experience

The primary role of the Control and automation specialist is to
maintain the plant and associated devices to original installed state. In doing
so it must ensure that plant availability and product quality is maintained at
minimum cost; without sacrificing standards. He or she will also be required to
provide continuous improvement initiatives that would enable more cost
effective manufacturing in a highly competitive market. The role also entails
the need to provide coaching within his or her field of expertise to develop
the skills of other technical peers.
Responsibilities

o Provide specialist support to the shift based teams during
operations. This will include standby and day shift support.
o Where requested, assist as a functional expert in problem
solving. This must be undertaken in support of the process artisan.

o Carry out audit to ascertain the health of equipment.

o Take part to resolve escalated electrical and automation issues.
o Upon resolution do route cause analysis and knowledge transfer.
o Take part in equipment audit and come up with innovative ways of
process improvement , problem solving and equipment optimization.

Housekeeping and safety
o Operate in a safe manner at all times, and to identify and
highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected.
o Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhering
to appropriate CCBA policies and procedures.
o Take part in plant audits and close out on audit findings around
electrical installations in the facility.
