Nursing Officer

GRADE B 1 POSITION: REF: PU/ADV/06/08/2019
Requirements For The Position Of Nursing Officer Grade B
This is a mid level position in this cadre in the University and appointment is on permanent and pensionable terms or on a two (2) year renewable performance-based contract depending on age, citizenship and any other reason.
Qualifications

·         The candidate must have a Diploma in Nursing or equivalent qualifications from a recognized Institution.
·         In addition, the candidate must be registered with a relevant professional body. i.e Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN)
Responsibilities
The candidate should have experience in the following duties and responsibilities:
·         Maintain infection prevention as per IPG guidelines
·         Attending to patients, patient observation/taking vital sign – blood pressure monitoring, temperature, respiration and pulse rate and weight.
·         Assessment of patient’s conditions and applying appropriate Nursing measures
·         Care of instruments by disinfecting and sterilizing
·         Escorting referred patients and ensuring the ambulance is equipped with emergency equipments.
·         Budget and order for supplies as necessary and actual treatment of patients, -dressing, suturing and giving injections.
·         Maintain patient’s records and health promotion through counseling, information giving and health education.
·         Assisting in recording keeping of patients
·         Counseling and taking care of patients in the unit
·         Providing health education to patients.
·         Writing monthly reports/incidence reports at the Health Unit
·         Assisting in making requisitions for supplies and equipment
·         Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Driver

GRADE: III 2 POSITIONS: REF: PU/ADV/08/08/2019
Qualifications
This is the entry position to the Drivers’ position in the University and appointment to this position is on temporary or permanent terms, or on a two (2) year renewable performance-based contract depending on age, citizenship and any other reason.
Academic Qualifications
Applicants must have:
·         A minimum of KCSE Certificate or its equivalent
Other requirements
Applicants must have:
·         A valid PSV and a driving license free from any endorsement and valid for classes B C E vehicles
·         Passed in Driver Grade III Test from the Ministry of Public Works
·         Five (5) years experience in driving a Bus
·         A recent certificate of good conduct from the Kenya Police Department
Applicants with the following Certificates will have an added advantage:
·         Certificate in First Aid course
·         Certificate in Defensive Driving
Experience
·         Candidates must have served for at least three (3) years of active accident free driving with proven integrity, honesty, punctuality and discipline.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be involved in carrying out the following duties.
·         Drive vehicles safely, legally and efficiently as required.
·         Operate University tractors
·         Detect and report malfunctioning of vehicles systems
·         Comply with all driving hours and Road Transport legislation
·         Proper use and maintenance of keys, pagers, and radios
·         Operate vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly, as assigned
·         General maintenance and cleaning of vehicles
·         Carrying out routine checkups on vehicles assigned (cooling and oils systems, electrical system, , brakes etc)
·         Maintaining work tickets for vehicles assigned
·         Ensuring that the servicing and repairs are done on time
·         Ensure security and safety for the vehicles on and off the road
·         Ensure safety of the passengers and or goods therein
·         To comply with all Health & Safety requirements
·         Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Laboratory Technologist

LOCUM 1 POSITION: REF: PU/ADV/12/08/2019
Qualifications
This is a temporary/short term position available for three (3) to six (6) months
Academic Qualifications
·         The candidate must have a minimum of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
·         In addition the candidate must be registered with a relevant professional body.
Responsibilities
The candidate should have experience in the following duties and responsibilities:
·         Ensure the Laboratory working surfaces are clean-dump dusting
·         Airing the Laboratory is clean and safe
·         Maintain a schedule for Laboratory waste disposal
·         Carry out Laboratory investigation as specified by prescribers
·         Ensure Laboratory equipments is functional and maintained
·         Writing of reports – monthly and when need arises
·         Perform any other necessary duty and responsibility as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Clinical Officer

LOCUM 1 POSITION: REF: PU/ADV/11/08/2019
Qualifications
This is a temporary/short term position available for three (3) to six (6) months
Academic Qualifications
·         The candidate must have a minimum of Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
In addition the candidate must be registered with a relevant professional body.
Responsibilities
The candidate should have experience in the following duties and responsibilities:
·         Examination of patients and making diagnosis
·         Prescribing relevant drugs for patients
·         Making requests for laboratory investigations
·         Carrying out Clinical Counseling
·         Referring patients for Senior review or specialist test
·         Attending to emergency cases that may occur among Pwani University Staff
·         May assist the Nurse in suturing and intravenous drug administration
·         Perform any other necessary duty and responsibility as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
