Job Vacancies: Field Interviewers


The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international, non-profit, non-governmental organization that conducts high quality and policy relevant research on population, health, education and development issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.
The Center seeks to recruit field interviewers for a projects that seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of the Choice for Change project on increasing knowledge, access and use of modern contraceptives methods among adolescents in Meru and Busia counties.
Position Description (Responsibilities):
·         Map out data collection areas
·         Identify households with adolescents who meet a defined criteria
·         Obtain consent from the parents/guardians and assent from adolescents to be interviewed
·         Conduct interviews using the mobile platform provided
·         Maintain standard procedures while conducting interviews and recording the responses
·         Maintain high levels of data quality by ensuring all questionnaires and other required documents are completed fully and correctly;
·         checking and correcting any errors that might have occurred;
·         Ensuring safety of all devices and survey materials provided during fieldwork
Minimum qualifications required:
·         Have at least KCSE with a minimum of C+.
·         Candidates with a background in social studies, education, or social work preferred
·         Experience in quantitative data collection using a mobile platforms. Experience in qualitative data collection is a plus.
·         Experience working with adolescents
·         Experience with electronic data collection
·         A resident in Meru or Busia Counties with good knowledge of the geographical area
·         Must be fully available throughout the data collection period and able to work in the data collection sites, i.e. Meru or Busia
·         Ability to speak Swahili, English and the local language spoken in respective County (i.e. Meru or Luhya or Teso)

Vacancies: Quantitative & Qualitative Field Interviewers For BFCI-ECD Research Project
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, nongovernmental organization committed to conducting high quality and policy relevant research on population, health, education and development issues facing sub Saharan Africa.
We invite applications for Qualitative & Quantitative Field Interviewers for a research project on integrating early childhood development into the Baby Friendly Community Initiative in Koibatek sub County, Baringo County. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection is expected to occur concurrently between March 2018 and May 2018.
Minimum qualifications for QUANTITATIVE field interviewers:
·         Should have completed secondary education and have a minimum grade C+ in KCSE

·         Be a resident of Koibatek sub County; proficiency in local languages is an added advantage
·         Be fluent in English and Kiswahili
·         Available for the entire training and data collection period
·         Have strong interpersonal, communication (written and oral) and facilitation skills
·         Familiarity and proficiency in the use of computer applications and electronic data collection software including ODK and SurveyCTO
·         Experience doing research involving young children below 3 years of age
·         Experience with quantitative and qualitative methods is an added advantage
Minimum qualifications for QUALITATIVE field interviewers:
·         Minimum of a first degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Anthropology, Social Sciences or related field from a recognized university
·         Have proven experience in qualitative data collection
·         Proficient in English and Kiswahili (verbal and written); proficiency with local languages is an added advantage
·         Excellent communication and interpersonal and report writing skills
·         Available for the entire training and data collection period

Job Vacancies: Research Assistants
The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization that carries out high quality, policy-relevant research on population, health and education issues facing sub-Saharan Africa.
Our goal is to generate evidence for meaningful action to improve the lives of all Africans.
APHRC seeks to recruit a research assistant to support one of its projects.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
·         Conduct literature searches and literature reviews as guided;
·         Support the development of study instruments, including questionnaires and manuals;
·         Support the training and supervision of data collection activities, as well as conducting regular data quality checks;
·         Support the project manager(s) in report writing;
·         Other activities as assigned by the Unit Leader/Project Manager.
Qualifications and Experience
1.   Bachelor’s Degree in the social sciences, with a minimum two year experience in research;
2.   Proven experience and aptitude in the conduct of literature searches and reviews;
3.   Excellent written and oral communication skills;
4.   Experience in the organization of field activities;
5.   Long-term availability to support the said research activities.
