Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 

Retail managers are responsible for the day-to-day running of stores or departments. 

The aim of any retail manager is to maximise profits while minimising costs.

The ideal candidate will be required to be in charge of up to 20 retail outlets for a leading Kenyan brand, they will also be required to deal with:
  • General operations
  • Customer service;
  • Finance;
  • Human resources;
  • Information technology;
  • Logistics;
  • Marketing.
Key Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Managing and motivating a team to increase sales and ensure efficiency.
  • Managing stock levels and making key decisions about stock control.
  • Analysing sales figures and forecasting future sales.
  • Analysing and interpreting trends to facilitate planning.
  • Using information technology to record sales figures, for data analysis and forward planning;
  • Dealing with staffing issues such as interviewing potential staff, conducting appraisals and performance reviews, as well as providing guidance for training and development.
  • Ensuring standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met.
  • Resolving health and safety, legal and security issues.
  • Responding to higher level customer complaints and comments.
  • Organising special promotions, displays and events.
  • Attending and chairing meetings.
  • Updating colleagues on business performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues.
  • Touring the sales floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers and identifying or resolving urgent issues.
  • Maintaining awareness of market trends in the retail industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing.
  • Initiating changes to improve the business, e.g. Revising opening hours to ensure the store can compete effectively in the local market, floor planning, shop layouts etc
  • Promoting the organisation locally by liaising with local schools, newspapers and the community in general.
  • Dealing with sales, as and when required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the line manager.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • 7 years’ experience with 2 years of those being in a similar role.
  • Proven successful experience as a large formalized store/franchise manager
  • Powerful leading skills and business orientation
  • Customer management skills; Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Excellent computer proficiency with experience in working with integrated systems and reporting.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or other relevant field.
  • A master’s degree would be an advantage but isn’t mandatory
Additional Requirements:
  • Up to 30% travel for cross country outlet visits.
  • Legal authorization to work in Kenya.
  • Flexibility in work hours to trouble shoot or work extended hours where necessary.
