Innovations for Poverty Action: Innovations
for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit research organization that creates and
evaluates approaches to solving development problems.
IPA disseminates
the results of its evaluations to policymakers, practitioners, investors and
donors around the world.
Project Objectives: Presently, we are conducting a follow-up survey to analyze the impacts of farmer managed research trials currently being implemented by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
The
research trials were first implemented during the long rain season of 2014 and
this follow up survey should be conducted just after the harvest.
Field officers will gain valuable experience in field data collection. Field officers will work directly with survey respondents.
The
field officers will work closely with team leaders and project managers to
improve their own skills.
Field
officers will be based in Siaya town and will travel throughout Yala, Ugunja,
Ukwala, Wagai and Boro. The field officers will be expected to work Monday
through Friday.
In addition, team leaders will be selected from the pool of field officers. Team leaders will report directly to the project manager and will be responsible for coordinating the activities of a small team of field officers.
Team
leaders will organize transport, ensure that data is collected from field
officers and properly transferred to project supervisors, ensure that payments
are being made to respondents correctly, and coordinate with village partners
to conduct data collection activities.
Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrive
to work promptly and reliably, always setting an example for one’s
colleagues.
- Interact
with community members with the highest level of integrity and
understanding.
- Collaborate
with teammates to improve own skills and those of teammates.
- Collecting
data using Netbooks
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelors’
degree in Social work and Agriculture.
- Diploma
with three (3) years’ experience working on data collection activities.
- Strong
written and oral communication skills
- Ready
to provide feedback to teammates
- Basic
computer skills

training, the survey round is expected to last approximately six weeks.
Senior Field officer will gain valuable experience in field data collection.
He/She
will work closely with the Field managers to improve his/her own skills.
She/he
will be based in Siaya town and will travel throughout Yala, Ugunja, Ukwala,
Wagai and Boro.
He/She
will be expected to work Monday through Friday.
The Senior Field Officer will report directly to the Field manager and will be responsible for coordinating the activities of a small team of field officers.
Senior
Field Officer will organize transport, ensure that data is collected from field
officers and properly transferred to project supervisors, ensure that payments
are being made to respondents correctly and coordinate with village partners to
conduct data collection activities.
Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Supervise
field officers conducting data collection and provide feedback field
coordinator
- Coordinating
with field officers for scheduling of respondents for data collection
activities
- Assist
in the management of data collection activities: collecting data from
field officers on a daily basis, and turning over data to project manager
- Oversee
field officers and ensure research procedures are correctly implemented
- Conduct
data collection for various surveys and quality control (back checks)
- Gather
information to support project planning
- Lead
training activities for field officers
- Other
duties as necessary in response to project needs
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelors’
degree in Agriculture, Economics, Social Work or a diploma with three (3)
years’ experience working on data collection activities
- Experience
working on data collection activities, especially computer-assisted interviewing
- Strong
oral and written communication skills
- Basic
computer skills
