PR and Customer Service Manager Job in Kenya

Kenya Maritime Authority is a State Corporation whose mandate is to regulate, coordinate and oversee maritime affairs guided by the Kenya Maritime Act, No. 5 of 2006 and the Merchant Shipping Act 2009. 

The Authority wishes to invite suitable candidates to fill the following vacant position:

Public Relations and Customer Service Manager 

(KMAG 3)

Reports To: Director General 

Supervision: 
  • Public Relations & Customer Service Officer
  • Public Relations Assistant
Location / Region: KMA Head Office, Mombasa
 
Purpose: Responsible for initiating and developing appropriate communication strategies, preparation of public materials and preparation of annual plans and budget. 

Also responsible for managing linkages with other stakeholders, organizing protocol and media events.

Responsible for developing and promoting KMA products and services as well as creating the KMA's image that interacts with the outside world

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Implementing marketing campaigns by organizing events e.g. exhibitions, media events, trade fairs, and company sponsored cocktails;
  • Developing and maintaining a good working relation with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Preparing public relations materials to be used in various departmental events e.g. press release, publication manuals, promotional materials, introductory speeches etc as necessary;
  • Preparing publication manuals;
  • Overseeing the customer service function of KMA;
  • Monitoring and updating the corporation's policy debate within Government;
  • Initiating and implementation of the Authority's corporate social responsibility programmes; and
  • Monitoring the press on KMA related items.
Person Specifications
 
Academic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in communications, mass communications or social sciences
Professional Qualifications
  • Professional qualifications in public relations and mass communications
Experience
  • 5 years’ experience in media/practiced journalism with at least 1 year in middle level management
  • Knowledge of desktop publishing
Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, management and communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills and highly confident
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with standard office computer applications
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
