Role Description

The Associate will lead the strategic development and implementation of Hardware: Africa 2015. 


The role will entail three primary activities over the course of the placement:

Program Management
  • Work with the local team to run point on logistical implementation of core program workshops and associated special events.  This includes organizing the food, space, and materials required to put on a great program.
  • Report on program progress.
  • Support entrepreneurs, mentors, and partners throughout sessions/events.
Entrepreneur Management
  • Serve as the main point of contact for the entrepreneurs in the cohort. Regularly communicate schedules, deadlines, program assignments, while also gathering the collateral and prep work and keeping it organized.
  • Work to understand the needs of the entrepreneurs, communicating with the team beforehand to ensure effective delivery of content and afterwards so their feedback is used to improve the next program.
  • Track logistics and participation of the entrepreneurs
Communications and Marketing
  • Gather information and develop program materials for the cohort and guests attending
  • Create event invitations and manage social media presence
  • Create workshop reports to share with company's partners
Essential Qualifications

You’re excited about working with Energy and Agriculture entrepreneurs.

You may have experience studying or working within the Energy or Agriculture sector; you may have policy experience; or Energy or Agriculture has been a lifelong passion that you’re looking to now pursue.

You’re interested in exploring a career in entrepreneurship or early-stage investing.

The company works with for-profit entrepreneurs that are seeking to create sustainable business models that deliver better agricultural/energy outcomes. 

If you’re interested in exploring a career in early-stage investing, working with early-stage ventures, or starting your own company one day, this could be the role for you. No prior investment experience is required.
 
You are an effective project manager.

You are highly organized and detail oriented. You have experience in program and event planning and logistics. You’re comfortable—and excited—to take a bunch of moving parts and create a highly organized machine.

You’re looking to build your network.

This role will interact with entrepreneurs, policymakers, foundations, investment funds, corporates, and more—if you’re excited about working with people and like building a network, this could be the role for you.

You’re a leader.

You will be working with 15-20 CEO’s. 

You are an expert at interacting with C-suite professionals and not afraid to push back where needed, while still maintaining high standards of excellence, grace, and hospitality.

Kenyan nationals strongly preferred.

  • Attention to detail:  You are committed to accuracy, highest-quality results, going above and beyond assignments (including some nights and weekends).
  • Organization: You are detailed oriented and enjoy the process of planning events and coordinating complicated projects.
  • Enthusiasm: You believe in our mission and you like to sell what you believe in. This role will constantly be explaining the value of the program to entrepreneurs, pipeline partners and others.
  • Analytical rigor: You are excited about taking a broad pipeline of entrepreneurs and leading a process that identifies the best investment opportunities;
  • Intellectual curiosity: You are deeply interested in agriculture/energy and entrepreneurship.
Languages: Fluent or business-level written and spoken English.

Length of assignment:
