Our client has been in existence since 1999 and is registered as a Trust under the Laws of Kenya with the aim of youth empowerment. Its target focus area is the youth from the informal settlement areas of Nairobi which constitutes 60% of the total population estimated at 7 million. 

They are largely underprivileged in terms of the basic human needs including access to education and training with 50% to 70% of them living below the poverty line.
 

The Trust equips the youths with knowledge in Web Design, IT skills, Creative Multimedia, Entrepreneurship and Sexual Reproductive Health. 

The Trust envisages a situation where 70% of the urban informal settlement youth access information Communication technology (ICT) skills that would improve their employability and ability to enter the labour market.
 
They are seeking to recruit a Project Coordniator based in Nairobi. The position is available immediately. The position is available on a 1 year contract basis, renewable depending on performance.

Main Purpose of the Job:
 To ensure quality in implementation of the clients Girls Literacy in ICT project and the achievement of set goals and objectives

Key Responsibilities:
  • To endure the timely formulation, planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate project strategies, objectives, goals and activities.
  • To provide leadership, training, supervision and guidance to the project staff.
  • To develop individual work plans with the Training Coordinator and the Information Centres' Officer
  • To organize and chair regular project meetings to review and plan activities
  • To ensure that project design and implementation meets the criteria of relevance, consistency, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • To develop effective mechanisms and girls engagement and develop and maintain, as planned, new partnerships with partnering organization
  • To make and maintain quality and effective links with partner organizations and other players in the sector in the programme areas.
  • To asses and address the capacity building needs of partner organizations.
  • To organize regular meetings with partner organizations to plan and review activities.
  • To ensure that there are effective mechanisms to facilitate conscious and continuous learning among programme staff as well as partner organizations.
  • To ensure that relationships between staff are supportive and harmonious
  • To provide the Programme Manager with regular and timely information on project performance.
  • To ensure the timely production and circulation of information on project activities
  • To document key learning experiences
  • To maintain harmonious links with other departments or sections within Nairobits
  • To cultivate and encourage a culture or result-oriented productivity among project staff.
  • Work with the Information Centre Coordinator to ensure promotion of work of information centres through publicity to attract visitors
  • Writing reports, publications and website content.
  • Providing user education through leaflets, websites and tours of the information centres.
  • Giving presentations and individual consultations.
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
  • Preferably a university degree in the relevant discipline
Skills and Attributes:
  • Sound knowledge of the development sector and the socio economic and political situation in Kenya.
  • Sound knowledge of development theory, poverty and power relationships.
  • Good grasp of training as a discipline
  • Knowledge of project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Knowledge in Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights
  • Knowledge in girl empowerment programs
  • Good understanding of finance
  • Knowledge of the dynamics of international funding agencies.
  • Ability to network
  • Proven managerial and administrative ability
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Ability to provide leadership and to motivate others
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to speak and write in English and Kiswahili.
  • Good working knowledge of computers and computer applications
  • Knowledge of advocacy work/being able to identify right partners for the same
  • Representation at forums
  • Being able to review training methodologies and identify needs areas for trainers
  • Business oriented(entrepreneurship-set up small startups and or even micro finance knowledge)
  • Willingness to travel regularly
  • Willingness and ability to relate with the poor and marginalized.
  • Willingness to travel and work in harsh conditions
Working Experience:
  • Have at least three year experience
