Project / Proposal Summary: 

In October 2012, Management Systems International (MSI) was awarded the Kenya Program Support Project.

Under Support, MSI provides verification, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting for USAID/Kenya’s entire portfolio of projects country-wide.

Position Summary:

The graphic designer is responsible for creating design solutions that have a high visual impact.

The role involves designing a “14-page, A5 color brochure”, giving MSI a visual 'brand' in PDF format High Definition.

The graphic designer will work to a brief agreed with the client.

They will develop creative ideas and concepts, choosing the appropriate style to meet the client's objectives.

The work demands creative flair, up-to-date knowledge of graphic designing software and a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines.

The job may involve managing more than one design brief at a time and allocating the relevant amount of time according to the value of the job.

** This is a consultancy and not a fulltime position**

Responsibilities:
  • Meeting to discuss the tasks objectives and requirements of the job;
  • Interpreting the client's tasks needs and developing a concept to suit their purpose;
  • Estimating the time required to complete the work;
  • Developing design briefs;
  • Thinking creatively to produce new ideas and concepts;
  • Using innovation to redefine a design brief within the constraints of cost and time;
  • Presenting finalized ideas and concepts to client;
  • Working with a wide range of photography and computer-aided design (cad);
  • Proofreading to produce accurate and high-quality work;
  • Contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief;
  • Demonstrating illustrative skills with rough sketches;
  • Working on layouts and artwork pages ready for print;
  • Meeting printers and approving proofs, as necessary;
  • Working as part of a team with printers, photographers, stylists, illustrators, other designers, MSI and client.

Qualifications:
  • A minimum of three years experience in graphic designing;
  • Degree in Graphic Design or related field;
  • Kenyan or regional experience;
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programs such as QuarkXPress, FreeHand, Illustrator, Photoshop, 3ds Max, Acrobat, Director, Dreamweaver and Flash or any other related software design for the above-mentioned tasks;
  • Experience with USAID or another donor;
  • A team player, able to cope with a challenging and fast paced environment;
  • Attention to details;
  • Excellent creative design.
