General Manager Job in Mombasa, Kenya


A Mombasa-based utility company seeks to recruit a goal-oriented, self-motivated and qualified person to fill the following management position:

Position  : 
General Manager- Human Capital (Ref No. HRIGM - HRCI2OI2)

Reporting to : Managing Director
Job Grade  : 2


Overall Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialized expertise in the overall Human Capital Management and logistical policies and strategies in order to support smooth running of the Company’s human resource and logistical operations.

Key Result Area/Principle Accountabilities and Duties
  • Provide guidance and advice to achieve efficiency in the overall function of Resources management and Administration Division.
  • Assume overall responsibility in the development, implementation and review of personel policies and procedures to conform with industry human capital best practice, Employment laws and ILO Conventions.
  • Develop and implement strategies of the management of change process within the company and align it to the Corporate Strategy.
  • Oversee human capital investment matters, promotions, remuneration, staff training and development and manage industrial relation matters.
  • Advice the Company on Union matters including Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) and filing of memoranda during labor disputes.
  • Develop career planning and succession management strategies.
  • Develop and implement strategies of staff welfare.
  • Maintain liaison with all Divisions, departments and Area Business Units to ensure their human capital and other logistic needs are met.
Education, Professional Qualifications and Work Experience:
  • Be in possession of a Bachelors degree from a recognized institution and a Certified Public Secretaries, Kenya (CPS K) or a diploma in HR Management, Public Administration or Management;
  • Be a member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (K);
  • An MBA (HRM) will be an added advantage; and
  • Minimum five (5) years experience in human capital management at senior management level.
Required Skills and Competencies
  • Must demonstrate team management, excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Ability to develop HR strategies and business plans to drive the corporate strategy;
  • Have demonstrated a high degree of professional competence in Human resources management and development services;
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the vision and mission of the company and ability to translate the HR role in realization of the mission;
  • Ability to use computers , including MS Office suite and Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS); and
  • Ability to multitask in a fast -paced environment.
This position is on three (3) year contract renewable subject to satisfactory performance. In addition to the salary, the job attracts a service gratuity of 25% of the annual basic salary and a medical scheme for self and up to five (5) dependants for both in-patient and out-patient.

This is a senior management position in the Company and demands excellent people management and development skills, written and oral communication skills both in English and Swahili and high degree of honesty and integrity.
