Background and Context

One of the strategic areas of intervention for UNDP Kenya is to enhance institutional and technical capacity for disaster (man-made and natural) management (preparedness and response), policy formulation and implementation. 

As a part of its commitment, UNDP Kenya is to deliver the project ‘Peace Support Operation (PSO) Training and Capacity Enhancement at the International Peace Support Training Centre’ in order to develop regional capabilities in peacekeeping, peace building, conflict management as well as conflict prevention. 

The project is implemented through the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Nairobi, by building its institutional capacity, delivering peace support training, AU/UN police training and other components associated with the project objectives.

Functions and responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the head of the Peace Building and Conflict Prevention Unit at UNDP Kenya, the Programme Officer will be accountable for the project and oversees its implementation process according to the Project Work Plan.

QualificationsEducation
  1. A Master’s degree Economics, conflict management, peace building, political science, international relations, social sciences or other relevant fields with three years of increasingly responsible working experience in the area of project management/ coordination.
  2. A Bachelor’s degree Economics, conflict management, peace building, political science, international relations, social sciences or other relevant fields with 5 years of increasingly responsible working experience in the area of project management/ coordination will be considered in lieu of a Master’s degree.
  3. Experience in peacekeeping and peace support operation in a CIMIC/CIMCOORD environment is highly desirable; and
  4. High level of familiarity with UNDP/UN and/or Government management/ financial procedures.
