USAID Uzima Project Director and Malaria Technical Advisor Vacancies

Access to Clinical and Community Maternal, Neonatal and Women's Health Services (ACCESS Uzima) is a USAID associate cooperative agreement implemented by Jhpiego-an affiliate of Johns Hopkins University.

ACCESS Uzima's mandate is to collaborate with the relevant divisions of the two Ministries of Health, APHIA II programs and other stakeholders to ensure improved maternal, newborn, reproductive health (including prevention of malaria in pregnancy) and HIV/AIDS outcomes.
 

ACCESS Uzima is currently looking for experienced medical professionals with excellent technical skills, who are team players, dedicated, hard working and able to work in a high pressure environment requiring multi-tasking.

Project Director

The Project Director will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of ACCESS Uzima activities in Kenya

S/he will work closely with the Jhpiego Kenya Country Director and Jhpiego technical and support team to ensure programmatic leadership and integrity.

We are seeking for an individual with excellent managerial, technical and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of ACCESS Uzima program strategy in Kenya and plan for overall implementation and attainment of program goals
  • Ensure that ACCESS Uzima program is technically sound, evidence-based and responsive to the needs of the country
  • Provide technical leadership and set priorities for the program
  • Prepare, review and submit annual work plans to the donor
  • Provide overall leadership for the program's technical, financial and human resources functions
  • Represent ACCESS Uzima at Ministries of Health and other relevant technical meetings
  • Prepare, review and share annual and quarterly reports and other program deliverables in time
  • Track and present progress, achievements and lessons learned to key stakeholders including donor and partners
Qualifications:
  • Must be a medical doctor, with post-graduate qualification in either medicine, obstetrics and gynecology or public health
  • Over 10 years experience in successful implementation of either reproductive health, maternal and newborn health or HIV/AIDS programs
  • Experience in health systems strengthening is desirable
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to produce quality results
  • Experience in working with Ministries of Health systems and personnel
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS office
Malaria Technical Advisor

The Malaria Technical Advisor will serve as a member of ACCESS Uzima's technical team and will provide technical assistance to the Ministry of Public Health and Sanitation's Division of Malaria Control (DOMC) and Division of Reproductive Health (DRH) to strengthen services for prevention of malaria in pregnancy and for improving malaria case management in accordance with national guidelines.

This position is based in Nairobi; however, there will be frequent travel to target provinces and districts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance in all aspects of malaria programming
  • Contribute to the strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of malaria activities for DOMC and DRH.
  • Work closely with program teams to ensure quality implementation project's activities
  • Develop tools and strategies to improve access to prevention, control and treatment of malaria and integration of malaria activities with other existing health programs
  • Contribute to the preparation of project's work plans, budgets, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Compile and analyze data for performance monitoring and evaluation of the project
  • Participate in trainings, meetings and workshops related to malaria activities
  • Participate in national and provincial malaria review meetings, and conduct supportive supervision visits in collaboration with DOMC and DRH
Qualifications
  • Degree in medicine and a masters degree in Public Health or equivalent
  • At least 5 years of experience in a malaria related field
  • Excellent analytical, communication and report writing skills
  • Experience working with MOH systems and personnel
  • Experience working with donor funded programs
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS word, Excel and PowerPoint
