USAID East Africa Senior Regional Maternal & Child Health Specialist Vacancy Announcement

The United State Agency for International Development's Regional Mission for East Africa (USAID/EA) seeks to fill the position of Senior Regional Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Specialist for its Regional Health & HIV/AIDS (RHH) Office.

The incumbent will be one of a team of senior staff providing technical assistance on maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH) and nutrition technical and program issues in the region.

The primary duties will be to:
  1. manage, monitor, evaluate and report on MNCH activities funded by USAID/EA
  2. provide technical assistance to USAID missions in the region requesting expert services in MNCH and related technical areas (gender, family planning/reproductive health, health systems, etc.) design, implementation and evaluation, as well as implementation of USAID-related regulations

  3. take the lead in communicating on MNCH issues and organizing MNCH regional meetings; and
  4. establish and maintain collaboration among relevant U.S. Government (USG) offices, donors and regional partners
  5. Applicant may be either a United States citizen living in Kenya or a Kenyan citizen.

Education:
 A Master's degree in public policy, public health, administration or related disciplines is required.

Experience (40%):
 At least seven years of progressively responsible experience working for a USG agency and/or a development organization; at least four of which were spent in a developing country context, in international/resource-poor settings, working with host governments, other international donors and/or non-governmental organizations in support of development programs; and at least three of which involved work maternal, newborn and child health.

Knowledge (30%):
 The applicant must have strong management skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills, including fluency in spoken and written English. Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.

Skills audibilities (30%):
  • The incumbent should have the ability to develop strategies and detailed implementation plans for maternal, newborn and child health and related health technical areas such as gender, health systems reproductive health etc., within the USAID framework and work with regional actors and government officials to reposition MNCH issues on the regional health agenda.
  • He/she should have the skills necessary to assure that' MNCH activities are implemented in a timely and quality manner; ensure the development of evaluation plans and utilization of evaluation findings; and prepare the MNCH-related sections of Mission required reports.
  • The incumbent should have the strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Short-listed candidates will be requested to submit a writing sample demonstrating technical writing skills.
