GeSCI – Technical Officer Job Vacancy

GeSCI, the Global e-Schools and Communities Initiative, is a non-profit organisation founded by the United Nations ICT Taskforce. GeSCI provides strategic advice to Ministries of Education in developing countries on the effective
use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) in Education within the context of inclusive Knowledge Societies.
GeSCI is seeking to recruit a Technical Officer who will provide IT management and support expertise to the organization to support both its internal business IT requirements and also additional web-based applications used within the programmes such as the Learning Management System and other social networking tools.
The Technical Officer will be responsible for installation, customisation, management and maintenance of these systems as well as providing end-user support to GeSCI staff and other users of the various applications.
The ideal candidate will have:

·         Graduate level qualification in computer science, computer engineering, information management systems, web design or related field, ideally with professional Microsoft qualifications or other related qualifications.
·         Excellent knowledge and understanding of web 2.0 applications and social networking applications; Web programming skills including proficiency in PHP programming, SQL programming and Database development skills.
·         At least 3 years hands-on experience managing and maintaining Windows based and Linux based server systems; enterprise email, intranet and web applications; and developing database driven, dynamic or transactional web based applications.
·         Hands-on experience with social networking tools development and maintenance, ideally including experience of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Content Management Systems (CMS).
·         Excellent Interpersonal skills and communication skills.
Based in Nairobi, this is a 2 year contract renewable subject to performance and/or need. This position has a 6-month probation period.
