This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research and program evaluation in malaria, HIV and other diseases.

It is in this mandate that the program is seeking for motivated, pro-active individuals to fill the following vacancies in the GAP TREAT/ARV Program

Essential requirements:

  • Education: - MBChB or MD, with a Masters Degree in Public Health or Epidemiology
  • Experience- one year relevant experience in research or HIV and/or TB program work

Desired Qualifications

  • Interest and experience in public health and research.
  • Experience working within the Ministry of Health infrastructure preferred.
  • Good written and spoken English, Computer skills is required
  • Data analytical skills
  • General Knowledge of Epidemiology, HIV/AIDS and TB
  • Skills and abilities: strong management, organizational and leadership skills required.
  • Should be able to operate independently and posses problem solving skills.

Job Description:

The Research Officer will report directly to the GAP branch chief and will be responsible for day-to-day implementation and coordination of Gap Treat Operational Research Project.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete and prepare all data collection instruments
  • Participate in the hiring and direct a team in quality data collection
  • Supervise data collection in selected districts in Nyanza Province
  • Work collaboratively with Ministry of Health Teams in province, districts and Health facilities in Nyanza Province.
  • Work collaboratively with KEMRI/CDC projects; clinical and data managers
  • Ensure data quality and security is maintained throughout.
  • Troubleshoot logistical and technical issues while in the field
  • Ensure participant privacy and confidentiality is maintained
  • Follow directions and instructions from supervisors in GAP/field station program
  • Assist with research and report writing
  • Perform other duties as maybe assigned by management

Terms of Employment: A six (6) 1 Year renewable Contract as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competence.
