Program description:
 This program is a collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention whose remit is to conduct research in malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its rapid growth, the program has vacancies in the HIV Counseling and Testing Program – Provider Initiating testing and counseling within Nyanza.

Essential Requirements

  • Diploma in Nursing or Clinical Medicine
  • 1 year Experience Providing clinical services in Government or mission health institution
  • Trained in HIV testing and counseling
  • At least 1 year experience in providing HIV counseling and testing in a government or mission health facility
  • Excellent and proven English written and verbal skills
Desirable Qualities
  • Experience in providing PITC services
  • Experience in providing health education in health facilities
Job summary: Reporting to the officer in charge of the clinical facility as well as the PITC Coordinator, KEMRI/CDC

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Provide PITC Services in the outpatient and inpatient services in an assigned health facility
  • Provide professional support and mentorship to other health care workers in the provision of PITC including:
  • Conducting sensitization for health workers on HTC
  • Provide on job training, observation and mentorship for health workers in the health institution
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluation activities to document activities and provide quality assurance to improve program service delivery
  • Provide back up counseling support for difficult HTC cases
  • Promote/strengthen the provision of psychosocial disclosure counseling, encouraging partner testing, condom use
  • Facilitate health education and other communication about HTC in the institution
  • Develop documentation and tracking to ensure referral and follow-up within and beyond the institution to HIV patient support centers.
  • Ensure PITC data is collected at service points and submitted to the district AIDS Coordinator
  • Ensure the timeliness and adequacy of HTC supplies to all user departments in the institutions
  • Ensure that patients’ privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
Terms of Employment: 

Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Salary negotiable within the appropriate grade depending on education, experience and demonstrated competency.
