Our
client in Rwanda is seeking to hire a Director of Civil Engineering; you will
play a pivotal role in overseeing all civil engineering aspects of our
construction projects. You will lead a team of engineers and collaborate
closely with project managers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders
to ensure the successful execution of projects from conception to completion.
This role requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and technical
expertise in civil engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic
Planning:
Develop and implement strategic plans for the civil engineering department
in alignment with company objectives. Identify opportunities for process
improvement and innovation to enhance project efficiency and quality.
- Project
Oversight:
Provide technical expertise and guidance throughout the project lifecycle,
including conceptual design, planning, permitting, construction, and
closeout. Ensure that civil engineering designs meet regulatory
requirements, industry standards, and client expectations.
- Team Leadership: Lead and
mentor a team of civil engineers, designers, and technicians. Foster a
culture of collaboration, professional development, and continuous
improvement within the department. Assign tasks, set performance goals,
and conduct regular performance evaluations.
- Client
Engagement:
Act as a primary point of contact for clients regarding civil engineering
matters. Build and maintain strong client relationships by understanding
their needs, addressing concerns, and delivering exceptional service.
Collaborate with business development teams to identify and pursue new
opportunities.
- Resource
Management:
Manage departmental resources, including budget, staffing, equipment, and
technology. Allocate resources effectively to support project requirements
and ensure optimal utilization.
- Quality
Assurance:
Establish and enforce quality assurance processes to maintain high
standards of engineering excellence and regulatory compliance. Conduct
thorough reviews of engineering designs, calculations, and specifications
to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Risk Management: Identify
potential risks and challenges associated with civil engineering aspects
of projects. Develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks, resolve
issues, and ensure project success. Monitor project performance metrics
and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Collaboration: Collaborate
closely with internal stakeholders, including project managers,
architects, contractors, and subcontractors, to coordinate civil
engineering activities and ensure seamless project execution. Participate
in interdisciplinary meetings to facilitate effective communication and
problem-solving.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Professional
Engineer (PE) license required.
- Proven
experience (8+ years) in civil engineering, with significant experience in
the construction industry and project management.
- Strong
leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate
teams.
- Excellent
communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth
knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, codes, and
standards.
- Proficiency
in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other relevant engineering software.
- Demonstrated
ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Strong
analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability
to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing
priorities.
