Environment Health and Safety Advisor
Responsibilities
- Promote and develop a Safety
Culture which secures effective implementation of policy, procedures, and
responsibilities throughout the Tatu City operational delivery.
- To ensure that the workplace is
safe and compliant with company Health Safety and Environment guidelines
as well as Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Conduct timely environmental
health and safety audits, daily site walk downs, conduct safety toolbox
talks and safety inductions as will be required.
- To ensure preparation and
implementation of the Site Environmental Safety and Health Management
Plan.
- Prepare daily safety and health
reports or injury logs and ensure they are completed and submitted to
relevant government agencies
- Train and advice employers and
all relevant stakeholders on issues of workplace health and safety, and
environmental protection (including induction) operate properly
- Verify the adequacy and safety of
all work proposed tools and equipment
- Train and run drills and exercise
with workers on how to manage an emergency situation.
- To continuously monitor and
assess hazardous and unsafe situations, and make recommendations to
project team/management on how to avoid or mitigate these risks.
- To correct unsafe acts or
conditions at respective sites through the regular line of authority which
includes issuing warnings, conducting investigations, and taking
disciplinary action and also ensure that all safety regulations are being
followed.
- Manage the arrangements for
incident, accident and statutory inspections and enquiries, agreeing and
implementing necessary changes
- Produce monthly Health and Safety
update including accident statistics and present findings to management.
- Liaise with Head of Health and
Safety on any matters that require additional support.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years’ experience
in construction safety
- Experience working in a
standards/compliance environment.
- Health & Safety /Environment
Qualification – IOSH / NEBOSH (min Certificate)
MUST HAVE
- Diploma
in Engineering/Science or Occupation Health and Safety
- Profound
knowledge of industry standards and regulations (OSHA)
- Current
knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
- Ability
to climb heights using ladders or scaffolding. A significant amount of
construction works are done at heights above ground level which requires
the EHS advisor to be able to access the work to evaluate it
- Good
organizational and record-keeping abilities – the ability to maintain good
record of all safety-related activities
- Profound
knowledge of company project work
- Able
to work outside of normal hours if an emergency arises which needs urgent
attention
- ISO
14001/45001 certification, First Aid Certification, Work at Height
Certification and Confined space certification will be an added advantage.
