Head of Credit Administration

Ref: SBMK/HCA/02/17
 
Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, will supervise the maintenance of the entire documentation associated with all credit applications, credit support, control systems and other practices necessary to manage the outstanding risk assets of the Bank to normal repayment and to properly and effectively monitor credit risk. 

She/he will also design, review and implement credit administration structure and procedures within the bank.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that all conditions precedent for credit facilities are in place and the necessary deferrals / waivers sought from Management Credit Committee, prior to signing off for disbursement of all credit facilities;
  • Ensuring post disbursement compliance with approved terms and conditions, assignment of rights, review expiry of credits, progress payment insurance etc
  • Review loan documents and liaise with internal and external parties to ensure proper and efficient delivery of credit administration duties
  • Provide information to Finance Department to assist in the preparation of monthly/quarterly reports to Central Bank of Kenya e.g. monthly reports etc
  • Monitor all irregularities, past dues, documentation deficiencies, etc., and report to Executive Management / Management Credit committee
  • Ensure compliance with the internal policy, credit approval terms and conditions, regulatory ratios / policies etc;
  • Ensure that there is a robust process for the safe custody and control of all security documents
  • Supervise the Credit Administration team to ensure adherence to good credit administration practices;
  • Provide training for Business Units & coaching for Credit Risk Management staff on credit related topics
  • Review daily system credit monitoring and management reports and identify non- performing accounts with irregularities and proactively follow-up to ensure corrective action is taken in line with credit policy
  • Responsible for collateral valuation, collateral monitoring and collateral reconciliation with original documents
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Degree in Business field preferably in Finance / Accounting) or a relevant professional qualification
  • Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage
  • Seven (7) years, 3 years of which should have been in management position
  • Knowledge of Central Bank’s regulatory requirements on lending and reporting
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft suite and also familiar with the Bank’s credit software

Head of Credit Underwriting

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, the job holder will be responsible for supporting Loan Managers and Officers in the credit analysis and underwriting of commercial loan packages. 

She/he will ensure the facilitating of comprehensive credit analysis that evaluates the existing facilities in the portfolio.
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the preparation of credit underwriting and analysis of existing loans in connection with renewals and modifications;
  • Review periodic reporting provided by customers to ensure borrowing base availability as well as to monitor performance;
  • Solicits existing portfolio customers in an effort to increase and retain volume and cross sell Bank products and services;
  • Promotes customer relations;
  • Evaluates financial statements, historical trends, projections, management performance, industry, cash flow, capital structure and collateral analysis;
  • Performs various departmental functions, including loan covenant monitoring, risk rating, stress testing and audit preparation;
  • Orders, reviews and analyzes reports (credit, environmental, appraisal, and property evaluations)
  • Recommends and models appropriate loan structure for new and existing loan relationships;
  • Prepares periodic reviews of existing loans to assess credit quality and covenant compliance
  • Prepares written Credit Memorandums for presentation and approval;
  • Develops underwriting policies for new credit verticals in conjunction with Portfolio;

Chief Risk Officer

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board Risk Committee, the successful candidate will be responsible for creating, designing and implementing a risk function that supports the strategic goals of the Bank.
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement an appropriate (Enterprise Risk Management) ERM infrastructure by integrating risk management with the Bank’s strategic management process
  • Manage on-going risk quantification, assessment, monitoring and reporting programs across the Bank
  • Own, manage and control Credit Risk in the bank that may be originated by Corporate, SME and Retail Banking
  • Assist Senior Management and Board of Directors in understanding risk, its measurement and control methodology; and provide support to the Board in its oversight of risk through regular reports
  • Optimize the existing risk management system, regularly create and evaluate the Bank’s risk control data model, using external, industry and internal data, the Bank’s risk control system
  • Implement the risk control system across various functional departments, including risk policy, credit review, AML, data modelling and collection, to ensure the efficient operation of various departments
  • Actively participate in Assets and Liabilities Committee (ALCO) of the Bank and provide critical input to help drive decision making on the optimal level of Risk Return trade-offs on transactions, products and business segments
  • Guide and review the Bank’s risk control policies, processes, data analysis and corresponding controls
  • Responsible for the Bank’s credit risk, operational risk, market risk, liquidity risk management
  • According to the Bank’s strategy, responsible for the development of risk management in the medium and long term, and implementation of relevant strategies and plans
  • Effective management of the credit risk function, including credit review, data analysis, anti fraud and collection
  • Establishment of fraud risk warning model and monitoring system, and quantitative analysis of risk data and

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance, Economics, Statistics, or a related Business

  • Must have good knowledge and grasp of banking practices, financial markets

Head of Corporate & SME Banking

Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, s/he will be responsible for overseeing overall Bank Corporate & SME lending. 

The successful candidate will be in charge of formulating, coordinating, planning and implementing strategies for growth and management of the bank’s Corporate and SME portfolios.
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Drive SME customer strategy as guided by the main bank strategy with the aim of growing the bank’s market share in the SME segment and ensuring profitability is achieved from this segment
  • Drive Corporate customer acquisition strategy as guided by the main bank strategy with the aim of growing the bank’s market share in the Corporate segment and ensuring that profitability is achieved from this segment
  • Guide both Corporate and SME relationship managers in originating strong transactions to support the Bank’s business in the two segments
  • Maintaining good client service for the two portfolios
  • Continuously review the lending portfolio so as to maintain a diversified client base, in line with macroeconomic conditions and the Bank’s strategy
  • Monitor and identify possible problem clients and ensure that appropriate recommendations are made to manage credit risk;
  • Formulate the Corporate & SME banking strategy in accordance with the Board’s guidelines
  • Take overall responsibility for the profitability of the two business segments
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Degree (Bachelor) with post graduate (Master in Finance / Banking / Accounting
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in both SME and Corporate banking environments
  • Possession of excellent team leadership skills
  • Ability to work accurately, under high pressure within fixed and short timeframes
  • Sound understanding of all corporate products and related credit risk
  • Sound knowledge of performance management of front office business units

Head of Wholesale Liabilities

Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, will be responsible for leading the Liabilities team performance, development and motivation for the team and ensure strategies are executed and monitored for optimal revenue and regulatory work on capital and asset/liability risk management policies for the bank.
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead the wholesale liabilities team in growing a sound portfolio with a keen eyes to cost and stability of funds
  • Recommend changes to existing liabilities products to improve specifications and performance. Responsible to design, recommend, develop and implement new competitive deposits schemes. Conduct presentations and training program to launch the new deposits schemes
  • Liaise with Treasury Department to design, recommend, develop and implement new competitive interest bearing deposit products
  • Provide expert advice and assistance on technical issues relating to the modification of such liabilities products
  • Carry out regular mystery shopping exercises to ensure that branches maintain an awareness of developments in wholesale liabilities products
  • Understand the market space in the service areas across; continually lead in the industry reviews on innovation and competitor activity
  • Maintaining and developing the Front-to-back service offering for Account Lifecycle for institutional clients
  • Working closely with sales and solutions teams, relationship and account managers
  • Manage a team of relationship managers and guide them to the predefined wholesale liability targets
  • Ensure the service proposition is delivered in a commercially sensible cost framework whilst maintaining and improving service levels against agreed SLAs
  • Benchmark team activities to external market and clients and price the portfolio according to the overall unit strategic intentions
  • Deliver a superb service to the clients and ensure impressive service quality
  • Provide Deposit performance metrics , feedback and reports to the management on a periodic basis
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Degree (Bachelor) with post graduate (Master in Finance / Banking / Accounting)
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience mainly in corporate liability portfolio management, product management and marketing.
  • Knowledge in corporate relationship management will be a key attribute.
  • Sound knowledge of compliance, KYC/ AML, regulatory framework, internal banking operations
  • Previous experience in a similar position will be an advantage
  • Proven team leadership skills is a must.


Head of Compliance

The successful candidate report to the Chief Risk Officer and will plan, direct and coordinate activities of the Bank to ensure overall compliance with legal, regulatory, ethical and integrity standards of the Bank.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a risk-based compliance monitoring framework, capable of identifying, assessing and reporting all material compliance risks
  • Monitor and coordinate compliance activities of all departments within the Bank and ensure their procedures, internal systems and controls are up-to-date and properly documented
  • Maintain an updated understanding of relevant regulatory requirements by providing advice and guidance to senior managers on various current and emerging laws and regulatory requirements that impact on the banking business
  • Develop an effective compliance training program for employees to create awareness on laws, regulations and ethical standards governing the banking industry
  • On an ongoing basis, identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk, and develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues; and provide general guidance on dealing with similar situations in the future
  • Respond to alleged violation of rules, regulations, policies and procedures by evaluating and recommending the initiation of appropriate investigative procedures
  • Prepare standard and ad-hoc data reports to regulators and other stakeholders as may be required
  • Review compliance policies and procedures on a regular basis to ensure they comply with statutory and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain effective and efficient interaction with regulators, ensuring the bank’s views are appropriately represented, and facilitate the supervisory activities of regulators
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Be a holder of a university degree in a business related field. A degree or Diploma in Law would be an added advantage
  • Have at least seven years working experience, four of which must have been in risk management, compliance, internal audit or any other related area.
  • Be conversant with banking regulatory requirements

Manager Trade Finance

Reporting to the Head of Centralized Operations and Alternate Cannels, the holder will be responsible for ensuring that all the trade finance activities are conducted strictly with banking credit line granted to the customer, organizing, supervising and directing activities of bills processing, import and export financing, establishment of letters of credit and attend to customer inquiries.
 
Core Responsibilities
  • Participate in drawing up annual business development plans in trade and corporate finance and to implement these plans with support from the Head of Centralized Operations and Alternate Channels and Branches.
  • Support structuring and processing trade finance transactions across a spectrum of sectors in liaison with the business teams and with support from the Head of Centralized Operations and Alternate Channels and Branches;
  • In line with the above, liaise with the Banking Operations department to ensure that once approval is received, disbursement is done within the required timelines and that the portfolio is managed according to the terms of the agreement and to the client’s satisfaction, until expiry of the same;
  • Deliver sound and efficient service in processing of trade finance transactions;
  • Supporting the credit department with information to facilitate the credit process and the legal department in the facilitation of transaction documentation;
  • Support review and pricing of trade finance transactions to ensure both profitability and competitiveness;
  • Support the operations teams in attaining processing efficiency in the unit.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • B.S. or B.A. degree in business related field from a recognized university;
  • Must be a Diploma in Banking/Finance or CPA (K) holder.
  • Impressive knowledge of trade finance products and infrastructure.
  • Experience in structuring and implementing trade finance transactions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Branch Managers

Reporting to the Regional Head of Branch Business, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Branch business of the assigned branch.

S/He will be in charge of implementing the bank’s strategy at branch level with focus on business growth and quality of service to the clientele
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Work with management in establishing growth, sales, and profit objectives for the branch
  • Ensure that the branch office is properly staffed and that the staffs are trained to meet customer service needs as well as sales objectives
  • Make certain that all office operations are performed in accordance with established Bank policies and procedures
  • Maintain working knowledge of the Bank’s lending and credit policies and answer customer questions as appropriate; takes loan applications; recommend or rejects loan applications
  • Prepare and submit weekly progress reports on marketing to the Regional Head of Branch Business
  • Grow customer base, product breadth and revenue streams of the branch
  • Market and publicize new and existing products and services introduced by the bank
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • B.S. or B.A. degree in business related field from a recognized university
  • Must be a Diploma in Banking/Finance or CPA (K) holder
  • Good knowledge and experience of bank operating policies and procedures
  • Sound analytical, communication, report writing and sales skills
  • Demonstrated management and supervisory skills sufficient to manage a staff
  • Minimal commercial lending authority; a thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all bank products and services; a working knowledge of visual and auditory skills; and

Head of HR and Administration

The holder will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer on issues concerning Human Resource Policy and Strategy; and will be directly responsible for all employee HR matters. 

The holder will support and sustain a culture of SBM Bank Kenya in HR matters and support related training initiatives.
 
Core Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the development of the Bank’s plans and programs as a strategic partner but particularly from the perspective of the impact on staff .
  • Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into HR strategic and operational plans.
  • Evaluate and advice on the impact of long term planning of new programs/strategies and regulatory action as those items impact the attraction, motivation, development and retention of staff .
  • Develop staffing strategies and implementation plans and programs to identify talent within and outside the Bank for positions of responsibility. Identify appropriate and effective external sources for candidates for all levels within the Bank.
  • Develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance and to provide programs which utilize an employee and company partnership for the short and long-term health and welfare protection of the employees.
  • Implement an effective Performance Management System that is effective and aligned to the Bank’s operating strategy in line with the Group’s performance standards.
  • Oversee the HR Information system, including maintenance of up to-date records of all Bank Staff  in such areas as contracts, staff  data, medical records, Training, etc.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management or equivalent. A Masters degree (MA) in HR or Business Management would be an added advantage
  • Have 10 years relevant experience,  five of which must be in a management role.
  • Be in possession of a Diploma in Human Resources and be a member of IHRM
  • Have very good technical knowledge of Kenya’s Labour Laws
  • Practical experience in handling Industrial Relations and ability to resolve any challenges that are industrial in nature.


Manager, Credit Recovery

Reporting to the Chief Business Development Officer, the job holder will be responsible for planning, coordinating and leading the recovery of delinquent loans in line with the Bank’s debt recovery policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the Collections and Recovery team delivers end to end high performance, taking ownership of their respective areas of responsibility
  • Analyze delinquent accounts and prepare report on highest risk accounts including recommendations for resolution
  • Formulate and implement strategies for recovery of delinquent facilities in line with the collections policy and procedures
  • Provide leadership to the recovery team and ensure that delinquent facilities are recovered or rehabilitated to performing status in line with the collections policy and procedures
  • Manage and closely monitor the productivity of the recovery staff in line with set targets and performance agreements
  • Coordinate the allocation of portfolios to external debt collectors and other service providers in recovery and ensure adherence to the terms and conditions of engagement
  • Ensure that proper procedures are followed in liquidation of customer collaterals and guide the branches and the recovery agents on the recovery process
  • Perform periodical review of the recovery policy and procedures
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • Degree in the field of Finance & Banking, Accounting
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Excellent negotiation and problem solving skills, strong mathematics skills
  • Knowledge of financial statements and cash flow analysis, industry/market credit research
