MSF Switzerland (MSFCH) is a humanitarian medical organization providing emergency medical aid to populations in need.

In partnership & collaboration with the Mombasa County Government / Department of Health, MSFCH implements ‘Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare’ services at the Mrima health facility in Likoni, sub-county of Mombasa. 

The objective of the activities is to increase access to quality maternal & neonatal health care services to contribute in improving maternal and newborn outcomes.

Job Title:
 Medical Doctor 

(4 Positions) 

Location: Likoni sub county of Mombasa
 
Length of contract: 3 months probationary contract with possibility of extension
 
Main Tasks include, but not limited to:
  • Provide Basic and Comprehensive Emergency Obstetrical and Neonatal health care, as well gynaecological care, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment to patients admitted in the SRH program
  • Carry out outpatient consultation for complications related to pregnancy, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF/MoH/WHO SRH protocols.
  • Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IPD patients (both direct obstetric complications and sick newborns), through daily visits, consultations and examinations, by prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF/MoH/WHO SRH protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments and informing their family about the patient’s evolution in collaboration with other doctors and the midwife activity manager.
  • In collaboration with other medical colleagues, participate in the collection and analysis data about any problem or complication of the patients illness, medical error as well maternal deaths in order to improve SRH results and to share knowledge among other field specialists
  • Ensure on-going training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
  • Put into practice the universal precautions at all times in order to reduce bio-hazard risks and improve infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of medicine and Bachelor of surgery (M.B; Ch.B) is essential
  • Registration Licence/Certificate by the Kenyan Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board is essential
  • Essential 2 year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor in the departments unit of surgery, Paediatrics, Oncology, Obstetrics/Gynaecology and Medicine
  • A comprehensive understanding of clinical and/or surgical procedures, patient care procedures, medical protocols and testing procedures is required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Psychology, Pharmacology, Clinical Medicine, Radiology, Microbiology and Pathology is required
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel)
  • People Management skills, Commitment, Flexibility, Results, Teamwork is required

Job Title: Midwife Supervisor 


(1 Position)
 
Location: Likoni sub county of Mombasa
 
Length of contract : 3 months probationary contract with possibility of extension
 
Main Tasks include, but not limited to:
  • Supervises the Nurses/Midwives team and other related staff in her team such as cleaners
1.    Plans and organizes their work (areas, days, absences, visits, holidays, etc);
2.    Supports and evaluates the team
3.    Coaches the team in their work with special focus in following all appropriate protocols and procedures
4.    Ensures team work and a professional relationship between maternity and other departments.
  • Supervises the clinical activities in all the maternity departments and activities such as ante-natal consultations, delivery and after delivery follow up, post-natal consultations, family planning consultations, new-born vaccinations and liaises with the Medical Doctor about the patients who need special care times, visiting hours)
  • Ensures that the staff on duty knows, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control in the medical premises ensuring high standards of hygiene in the working environment
  • Responsible for the department-related pharmacy activities (stock and consumption monitoring) as well as maintenance of the medical equipment
  • Responsible to ensure that all the administrative procedures, patients data and documents are filled in correctly and registered for compiling monthly reports reflecting the activity in the department.
  • In certain contexts, responsible to ensure that the maternity staff is able to identify, receive and provide care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the Obs&Gyne MD and following the protocols.
Requirements:
  • Kenya Registered Nurse/Midwife Diploma
  • Registration Licence by the Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Valid Practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya
  • Deep knowledge in planning, coordinating, controlling, and directing SRH services
  • Ability to work, lead and manage a multi-disciplinary nursing team
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Minimum 2 year experience in management.
  • Local language essential
  • Essential computer literacy (word, excel)
