Terre des hommes Foundation (Tdh) is an international NGO focused on Child Rights.

To support the development of its Child Protection Programme in Garissa Township, Garissa County. 

Tdh is encouraging Kenyan Nationals to apply for the position of:

Child Protection Officer – Garissa

1 Position

Reporting to:
 Child Protection Project Manager
 
Duty station: Garissa, Garissa County
 

Contract duration: 1 Year with possibility of extension based on performance and budget availability.

Main responsibilities:
  • Daily coordination of child protection activities in Garissa Township and the Garissa Rescue Center.
  • Establishment and management of the referral pathway ensuring coordination with partners on referrals
  • Supervision of Database Officer (part time)
  • Organize and facilitate periodic planning and program review meetings
  • Participate in management of complex or high risk child protection cases including managing cases requiring specialized intervention
  • Participate in family level interventions together with the Child Protection assistant and community volunteers as may be applicable
  • effectively manage outcomes of interventions; including participation in conference, and selected follow-ups
  • Reviewing triages and guiding social workers in determining best course of action in case management
  • Supports the conduction of Community Mobilization for child protection including work with Child Protection Committees, Community and religious leaders; school based interventions
  • Identify high risk cases/children in distress for psychosocial and mental health support
  • Participate in needs assessments and project evaluations aiming at contributing to the development of the Child Protection Program strategy for the Garissa Township and the Garissa Rescue Center.
  • Provide training and mentor support to the Child Protection Assistant
  • Organizing and conducting training for partners, with special emphasis to governmental partners (County Children’s Officers).
  • Organize and facilitate weekly internal case conference meetings
  • Act as the technical expert on child protection for the UNICEF supported CP Project, Garissa
  • Develop field reports on a periodic basis and provide reports to the Project Manager Garissa.
  • Support documentation activities in the project by development of case studies and best practices from the field.
Requirements:
  • Minimum bachelor degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in case management, or implementing child protection program (directly) in a Tdh program or programs of other like-minded agencies.
  • Experience in the Case Management Process, experience in Mental Health and Psychosocial support programming
  • Team management experience.
  • Project reporting and evaluation experience.
  • Strong training experience required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skill and ability and capacity to work upstream, especially with government
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Ability to communicate in Somali is a plus.
  • Good computer skills: MS Word and Excel.

Child Protection Project Manager 

Reporting to:
 Child Protection Programme Manager
 
Duty station: Garissa, Garissa County
 
Contract duration: 12 months (with 3-month probation period)

Main Responsibilities:
  • To be responsible, under the supervision of the Child Protection Programme Manager, for all aspects of the implementation of the Child Protection project in Garissa.
  • To manage, mentor and train a team of CP professionals and community workers.
  • To coordinate with the project heads of programme activities to ensure regular assessment of project needs and adequate follow up of extremely vulnerable cases.
  • To develop collaboration and participate in coordination with the local authorities such as the Sub- County Children Officer, the LAC’s, AAC’s, parents, operational partners, and services in order to establish a proper child protection referral system.
Requirements:
  • Minimum university degree in related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in projects supporting children (social work, child protection, psychosocial, education, etc.).
  • Experience working in a low income community context and knowledge of Behaviour Change techniques and approaches; or in refugee settings and managing child protection in emergencies programs is a plus (as applicable to area of work).
  • Management of project funds
  • Team management experience (5-10 subordinates).
  • Project reporting and evaluation experience.
  • Hands-on experience in training and mentorship of staff
  • Fluency in English and Kiswahili. Ability to communicate in Somali language is a plus.
