Rift Valley Railways (RVR), is the
Kenya – Uganda concessionaire exclusively operating freight (including marine
and passenger rail services in Kenya and Uganda under a 25 year concession
agreement signed with both governments in 2006.
In order to execute this ambitious
programme and to achieve its vision, RVR seeks to recruit highly driven and
motivated Professionals to fill the following position:
Commercial Driver
Purpose: Conveying of staff, materials and parcels to
various destinations as may be direct.
Key Duties / Responsibilities
- Driving a vehicle is a job which requires a
high degree of concentration, skill and foresight. Therefore, the
principal duty of a driver is to drive vehicles for the company as
directed by the Running Shift Foreman and will be responsible for;
- Proper maintenance of the vehicle by checking
in particular oil, tyre pressure and water levels regularly.
- Ensuring that the vehicle is clean and in good
condition before starting a journey.
- Ensuring effective use of the vehicle.
- Completion of the vehicle log book/work ticket
before commencement and after the journey.
- Ensuring immediate reporting of any
difficulties experienced or faults arising in the vehicle to the officer
in charge of the fleet of vehicles, when and if they arise.
- Ensuring that the vehicle is fitted with
necessary safety gadgets such as fire extinguisher, life savers and first
aid boxes.
- Ensure that all necessary licenses are valid
and available, (insurance and inspection stickers).
- Taking responsibility for the safety of
passengers in the vehicle.
- Ensuring safety of the vehicle and its
accessories by parking at secured and guarded places.
- Requesting for authorization for fueling the
vehicle.
- Any other duties as may be assigned.
Academic and Professional
Qualifications
- O – Level certificate
- Driving Course Motor Vehicle Driver. ABCE
class Driving License.
- Certificate of Attendance, Defensive Driving
Motor Vehicle.
- Possession of mechanic trade test an added
advantage
- Diploma in automotive or trade test in
mechanic is an added advantage
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience
- Well versed with the road traffic rules.
- Wide knowledge of different types of vehicles.
