The
Institute for Education in Democracy (IED) is a non-partisan non-profit making
Non - Governmental Organization (NGO) which promotes democracy through the
Electoral Processes and Institutions of Democracy, Civic Engagement and Flames
of Democracy, Research, Documentation and Dissemination, Consultancy Programmes
in Kenya and the Africa region.
Electoral Processes
Officer
The Position: The Officer will report to the
Programme Head- Electoral Processes and Institutions of Democracy Programme and
will assist in the implementation of project activities.
The
position offers special opportunity to work in the in the democracy and
governance sector, specifically the electoral processes in Kenya and Africa
region.
Main Duties and Tasks
- Designing, planning and implementing IED Programmes.
- Assists the Programme Head in designing, planning and administration of programmes, projects and activities within the programme.
- Researches and provides information on the democratic, governance and electoral environment in Kenya and IED’s areas of interest.
- Organises and manages all training logistics and venues in regards to all workshops/seminars/launches to be carried out by the programme.
- Designing and development of training materials, agendas/programmes and curricula and conducting trainings in relation to programme activities.
- Designing, preparation and dissemination of all programme and project reports.
- Maintains and continually updates (in collaboration with the Programme Head) data base on collaborators, consultants and trainers.
- Assists in the conceptualization, design and preparation of project proposals, concepts and budgets for fundraising and supports in other fund raising initiatives.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining networks, within Kenya, Africa region and the rest of the world.
- Participates fully as IED team member in all activities of the Institute and assists in other programmes as and when required.
- Minutes all programme and other meetings and initiate follows up on action plans.
- Assists in the supervision and co-ordination of all consultants.
- Assists the Programme Head in conceptualizing, designing and drafting of position papers on topical issues in the areas of IED’s interest.
- Performs any other relevant duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Must have a Basic Degree in a relevant social science discipline such as law, political science, international relations, leadership and governance, community development or development studies from a recognized institution of higher learning
- A Master’s degree or other post-graduate qualification in governance, leadership or research is an added advantage
- Must demonstrate a good working understanding and experience in matters pertaining electoral processes, specifically election observation.
- Must be computer literate
- Must have good Communication and Interpersonal skills and demonstrate an excellent team spirit and ability as a team player
- Must demonstrate an ability to work under minimum supervision
- Must demonstrate an ability to work under pressure and deliver quality outputs within deadlines.
- Must demonstrate professionalism, ready to learn and take initiative.
- Previous experience in research, election observation work and data analysis software will be an added advantage
- Must be committed to service excellence
