The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) is an Intergovernmental organization which provides services in surveying, mapping, remote sensing, GIS and ICT to its Member States, partners and clients.

It currently has nineteen Member States in the Eastern and Southern Africa region.

Our mission is to promote sustainable development through the generation, application and dissemination of geo-information and allied ICT services and products in the Member States and beyond.

The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) wishes to fill the following vacant positions:

1. Hydrologist

RCMRD is implementing SERVIR Africa project in collaboration with NASA with funding from USAID.

To support SERVIR-Africa Earth Observation application development in the water sector, RCMRD seeks to employ a competent Hydrologist who can help strengthen water resources management portfolio.

Duties and responsibilities:

The main responsibilities are as follows:
  • Collect and develop regional and national water resources management data and information,
  • Use available observed stream flow data to calibrate the modeling system and use the resulting calibrated system to generate real time and forecasted stream flow based on satellite and forecasted rainfall products,
  • Manage real time generation of hydrologic model products,
  • Undertake tests and comparative analysis among other hydrologic models,
  • Work with other SERVIR-Africa colleagues to transform the modeled data into formats compatible with end-user needs,
  • Provide advisory services to RCMRD member States on the application of Earth Observation in water.

Qualifications and Experience
  • MSc Degree or above in hydrology, hydrogeology, hydraulics, water resources management,
  • At least five years of years’ experience in water resources management, basin management, water quality monitoring, surface water hydrology and groundwater exploration,
  • Good understanding of hydrologic principles and water cycle components,
  • Good knowledge of how hydrologic models enable simulation of water cycle,
  • Familiarity with hydrologic modeling systems and software.
  • Remote Sensing knowledge, spatial modeling knowledge and GIS spatial analysis skills are also fundamental requirements,
  • Knowledge of Geoinformation Software will be an added advantage.

2. Accountant

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Finance Officer, he /she will carry out the following functions:
  • Maintain customers’ ledger, monthly analysis and reconciliation of debtors’ ledger, suppliers’ ledger statements,
  • Maintain the Centre’s Fixed Assets Register and coordinates the annual stock taking of the Centre’s assets,
  • Be in charge of the financial accounting and reporting, monthly bank reconciliation and monitoring daily balances and ensures sufficient funds in accounts,
  • Undertake the preparation of audit schedules in liaison with the internal and external auditors.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have:
  • Full professional qualification in accountancy e.g. CPA Part III, ACCA Level III or Chartered Accountant (CA),
  • Bachelor Degree plus CPA/ACCA Part II may also be considered in lieu of the above,
  • At least 6 years of progressive experience in finance and accounts,
  • Should have working knowledge of at least two accounting software packages.

3. Assistant Accountant

Duties and responsibilities:

Reporting to the Finance Officer, he/she will carry out the following functions:
  • Receipting of income received and banking of the same,
  • Maintain students’ fees records and monthly reconciliation of students’ ledger,
  • Prepares payment vouchers and cheques,
  • Issue invoices and local Purchase orders,
  • Post stores consumption to the respective department accounts,
  • Participate in the annual stock taking of the Centre’s assets.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have:
  • Professional qualification in accountancy, e.g. At least CPA Part II or ACCA Level II,
  • Degree or Diploma in Accountancy/Finance, Commerce or Business related field will be an added advantage,
  • At least 4 years relevant experience in a busy environment mostly in project and donor funds,
  • Should have working knowledge of at least two accounting software packages.
