Overall responsibilities:
- Design,
Install, support, implement & maintain systems, network
configurations, and network architecture, including hardware, servers and
software technology, site locations, and integration of technologies
- Plan
for development of ICT Facilities, project management for systems-related
projects,
- Development
& implementation ICT policies & procedures for installation, use,
and troubleshooting of communications hardware and software for the
College.
- Ensure
proper administration of operating systems and applications and providing
technical support to system users
- Maintain
appropriate profiles, privileges and system backups and restoration
scripts.
- Manage
all external and internal information security
- Review
systems performance and implementing strategic improvements
- Ensure
the integrity, reliability and security of data and processes
- Ensure
proper implementation of IT change management control processes
- Planning
for and responding to service outages and other problems.
- Scripting
or light programming, issuing & implementing upgrades,
- Maintains
network infrastructure such as switches and routers & administration
of the college’s mail server.

Qualifications, experience & key competencies
- A
minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or equivalent
qualification from an accredited university.
- Microsoft
Certified System Developer or Certified Information System Auditor
- Must
have at least two (2) years relevant work experience in a large &
reputable commercial entity or public organization.
- Knowledge
of operating systems and applications, as well as hardware and software
troubleshooting
- Effective
hardware and software problem solving abilities.

Assistant

Reporting To: Systems Administrator
Location: Based at Kenya Forest
College - Londiani
Reporting to the Systems Administrator - KFC, the position
holder will provide first-line ICT support for Kenya Forestry College staff and
maintenance of the ICT infrastructure.
Essential Job functions
Specifically the Key tasks for this position will include:
- Providing
technical support in line with service levels, respond to & resolve
individual users’ difficulties as well as diagnose and resolve common ICT
problems.
- Administering
the creation, operation, modification, and deletion of username and
passwords of employees in the system.
- Trouble
shooting through periodic scheduled & unscheduled checks of systems,
network infrastructure & software
- Identify
areas of operation that need upgraded equipment such as Computer, Drop
Cables (UTP), fibre optic cables, Hub, Switch, etc.
- Train
users in use of equipment
- Maintain
the peripherals, such as printers, that are connected to the network.
- Install
and maintain computer hardware, network systems and other ICT facilities
- Obtain
and install the necessary hardware and software upgrades for the ICT
network to ensure that the network is capable of meeting the needs of the
College.
- Perform
data backups and disaster recovery operations.
- Maintain
and administer computer networks and related computing environments,
including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and
all configurations.
- Operate
master consoles in order to monitor the performance of computer systems
and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
- Perform
routine network start up and shutdown procedures, and maintain control
records.
- Design,
configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating
system software.
- Analyze
equipment performance records in order to determine the need for repair or
replacement.
- Maintain
logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair
records.
- Maintain
an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
- Coordinate
with vendors and with Service personnel in order to facilitate procurement
Qualifications, experience & key competencies
Suitable candidates MUST have the following minimum
qualifications:
- A
Diploma in Computer Engineering/Science or equivalent with two (2) years
progressive work experience in a large and busy organization OR a
certificate holder in a relevant field with (4) years of work experience
- Certification
in Hardware Maintenance, network management or CISCO.
- Proficiency
in use of electronic test equipment and documentation
- Able
to work independently with minimal supervision when required
- Be
flexible in responding to changes in schedules and job priorities.
