CAHNET Country Coordinator - Kenya

The Community Animal Health Network (CAHNET) is a regional network managed by FARM-Africa that brings together individuals and organisations with an interest in community animal health systems.

CAHNET's objectives are:
  1. To proactively improve the standards and impact of community animal health delivery systems in the Horn of Africa by sharing CAHNET member-endorsed best practice through meetings, training courses, on-line training materials and impact studies and offering services such as sourcing vaccines, quality veterinary drugs and other services.

  2. To improve the legislative environment in which community animal health systems operate by advocating for evidence-based policy development in the region and sharing best-practice and impact studies with policymakers.
FARM-Africa is also currently partnering with GALVmed (Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines) in the "Protecting Livestock - Saving Human Life" Project.

 CAHNET Coordinator/GALVmed Africa Partnership Manager, FARM-Africa Regional Office, Nairobi, Kenya

Monthly basic salary:
 KES 83,175

General description of the job:

1. To build the Community Animal Health Network (CAHNET) in Kenya in order to improve:
  • Access to information by poor livestock keepers, their service providers and facilitators;
  • The standards and impact of community animal health service delivery systems;
  • The legislative environment in which Community Animal Health systems operate.
2. To manage the implementation, monitoring and reporting of all CAHNET activities in Kenya

Key responsibilities:
  • To coordinate CAHNET activities in Kenya and ensure they are implemented as planned.
  • To proactively market CAHNET in order to increase the membership base by taking a lead in membership recruitment drives, formation of livestock producer groups and facilitating interaction between CAHNET members and their stakeholders.
  • To source for new information and products that are relevant to poor livestock keepers, their service providers and facilitators and submit them to CAHNET's ICT officer in Nairobi for wider dissemination
  • To represent FARM-Africa and CAHNET as required in national forums, ensure that the needs of livestock keepers are well articulated and facilitate their participation in policy debates.
  • To participate, as required, in field data collection for social economic impact assessment and field testing of vaccines, diagnostics and other inputs by the GALVmed research team.
Person Specification Qualifications and Experience

Essential
  • Bachelors' degree in any agricultural discipline
  • Demonstrable knowledge of community-based animal health systems in Africa
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current animal health, socio-economic and policy issues affecting livestock keepers in the Greater Horn of Africa
  • Strong marketing and communication skills
