Program description: This program is collaboration between Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. Due to its continued growth, the Global Aids Program has the following vacancy in the Gap Treat/ARV program.
Position: Data Manager/Analyst (4 Positions) MR 9-Job Group M Location: KEMRI/CDC Field station, Kisumu
Reporting to: Care and Treatment Technical Advisor
Essential Requirements:
  • Education: Must possess a Bachelors Degree in computer Science, applied mathematics or statistics and information technology from a recognized university. Minimum of 2 years experience in data management is required.
Desirable Qualities
  • Ability to design/develop computer databases, demonstrated experience with SAS/SPSS/STATA programming for data manipulation/report writing, production, processing and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in cleaning data and performing data quality assurance procedures
  • Ability to identify and resolve potential or current data problems
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and writing with staff in all cadres.
  • demonstrated good organizational skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate and work as a team
  • Good judgment in problem solving, awareness of own limitations and internal motivation essential.
  • Be able to prioritize work and meet set deadlines
  • Field experience with data collection is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the program/research study’s design, goals and implementation so that s/he can participate fully in the successful execution of the study.
  • Undertake a wide range of data processing including production of reports, ensuring all data are entered routinely within set timelines and any data queries are followed up promptly.
  • Provide feed back to the research coordinator regarding the quality assurance of data, detected deficiencies and corrective action in the databases.
  • Deal with routine problems arising in the course of data handling
  • Perform data cleaning and ensuring that all data entered is of high quality.
  • Support in data analysis
  • Maintain effective and collaborative relationships with members of the program/research teams including clinicians, field workers, field supervisor, statistician, research coordinator and the Ministry of Health staff at the health care facilities.
  • Perform other duties assigned to them.
Terms of Employment: Six (6, 1 year renewable contract as per the KEMRI scheme of service. Probation period for the first 3 months. Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable within a relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency. The salary is based on the KEMRI scales plus supplemental amounts.
