Security Manager
Job Purpose and Key
responsibilities
Reporting to the Director
Human Resources, the jobholder will be responsible for overall security
management of the company in protection of Britam employees, business
operations/activities from actual or potential security threats, property,
preserving Britam’s assets and property, intelligence and investigation
services and providing corporate security expertise across the Britam Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Formulate
the Company’s Security strategy and continuously review existing policies,
processes and procedures pertaining to physical and personnel security.
- Development
and promulgation of security standards and practices to provide line
management with direction and control, in line with industry practices and
regulatory requirements.
- Act
as the liaison and primary contact with governments, authorities, and
external law enforcement agencies to maintain awareness and inform leadership
of relevant and current security issues.
- Ensuring
an effective risk analysis, threat assessment and response capability and
initiating special security measures during periods/instances of increased
threat.
- Providing
specialized advice to senior and line management on all security
functions, protection, intelligence, information and security
investigations.
- Ensure
that all critical areas of security concern are adequately covered in the
security plan and are effectively managed, monitored and controlled.
- Represent
the company in operational, coordination, and consultative security
meetings and forums to ensure that security matters are current and
addressed proactively.
- Liaise,
network, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders including, local and
international agencies and interested parties including the Government,
Kenya Police, other law enforcement agencies focusing on building sound
relationships to promote a safe and secure environment.
- Manage
all aspects of physical, electronic and personnel security for company
facilities and regional staff including designing, planning, implementing
and monitoring all elements pertaining to security including:-
- Access
Control Management i.e., User rights configuration for accessing the
buildings and management of Access cards and Access control system.

Systems where there are Britam security installations e.g., Britam
premises or specific residential premises

and Locks for Britam’s properties (doors etc)

contract management (Contracting, deployment and performance management)
- Coordinate
the following activities in relation to security management: –
- Security
Sweeps and Spot checks
- Penetration
Tests
- Intruder
Detection and Alarm Response Tests
- Security
surveys
- Internal
security audits
- Investigate,
follow-up and resolve security issues/cases affecting company mobile and
immobile assets e.g., facilities, network equipment/property, staff,
documents etc, and also collaborating with the Fraud department.
- Assist
company and regional staff, through liaison with law enforcement agencies,
on resolution security of matters that require security intervention
- Preparation
of high-quality reports including intelligence briefing, threats
assessments and investigative reports for leadership and collaborate with
risk to leverage on data analytics and information.
- Coordinate
the conducting of bi-annual security awareness briefs at all manned
company facilities
- Document
SLAs with all security service providers and oversee security personnel
seconded by contractors and monitoring effectiveness of third party
security services, including full command of the Security Control rooms
and systems
- Manage
the assigned Security budget and all security related projects for Britam
i.e., specifying security requirements for all Britam projects and Britam
Group projects. Develop budgets and forecasts for all physical and
personnel security related services for network facilities
- Manage
all security system projects by monitoring costs and schedules while
maintaining an appropriate level of quality in security systems
development and installation
- Conduct
continual premises vulnerability surveys and security risk assessments of
all offices, departments and functions to determine the need for
additional security services, and make appropriate recommendations
- Establish
and maintain satisfactory liaison with law enforcement officers at all
levels in geographical areas where employees are located, and maintain
files for each location regarding available resources and emergency
services agencies available
- Develop
and implement appropriate regular security education programmes in the
organization including mandatory security training for all staff, to
sensitize each individual on their role and responsibility for security in
the company in order to achieve a security culture and ensure efficient
handling of security matters.
- Carry
the security audit and assessment of Britam offices and recommend the
necessary measures to ensure that Britam assets and staff are safe and
secure at all times.
- Ensure
adequate secondary security incident response, investigation and
management i.e. Accident Injury on the premises, Violence, Death, rape or
other serious crimes on the premise.
- Administration
of Security to Britam Staff in HQ and Britam Branch network
- Ensure
all systems, tools/equipment and supplies needed by the security team are
available and in good working condition.
- Oversee
pre-employment screening and employee background checks to maintain
workforce integrity and safety including;
- ID
Checks, Academic Qualifications Check, Professional Membership Check,
Police Clearance Certificate Check
- Validation
and authentication of Certificates/Credentials

Knowledge, experience and
qualifications required
- Degree
in Security Management/Administration or any technical/business discipline.
- 7-10
years working experience out of which 5 years’ experience security
management in a reputable organization. Experience in the disciplined forces
is an added advantage
- At
least 2 years’ experience in Corporate Security Management in a large
corporate firm with multiple facilities
- Advanced
university degree in a relevant discipline will be added advantage.
- Security
certification from a recognized institution.
- Excellent
team leadership, team working and co-operation skills
- Excellent
Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge
of Criminal Procedure, Penal Code and Evidence Act.
- Proficiency
in IT.
- Must
be a person of unquestionable integrity.
Technical/Functional
Competencies
- Good
knowledge of the commercial security field including, experience in threat
analysis, Physical, people & travel security and developing risk
analysis; experience in evaluating and implementing physical asset
protection and conducting site surveys and awareness of executive
protection
- Good
knowledge of conducting and managing complex investigations, i.e. fraud
allegations and civil investigations; conducting witness, victim, and
suspect interviews experience
- General
knowledge of Kenyan Laws and Government Regulations pertaining to law enforcement
- Sound
knowledge in the following:
